Not a KC pitcher tonight with a WHIP under 1.65. They should tee off on these pitchers.

Don't love wasting Pivetta in the seventh inning of a blowout Good that he is covering the last 3 innings though.

Houck wasn’t great by any means but I’m just happy to have a starter make it through five for once.

I was curious and checked, Pedro did not pitch either game. Hilarious because that was my first thought too HRs pace Sox rally Jason Varitek had a pinch-hit two-run homer and Troy O'Leary added a two-run homer in a four-run seventh inning that saw three Tigers ejected during Boston's 8-7 win yesterday, its fourth straight. "It was a day game but I was looking for the moon," Red Sox manager Jimy Williams said. "There were some strange things going on." Like Detroit's Damion Easley getting hit by pitches three times in the game, tying a major league record. But the hit batsman that caused all the controversy didn't involve Easley. Trailing 6-4 in the seventh, the Red Sox rallied against reliever Matt Anderson (1-1), who entered with one out and a man on first. Varitek, the first batter he faced, homered over the bullpen in right to tie the game. After Nomar Garciaparra singled, O'Leary lofted an opposite field, wind-aided homer into the left-field screen. Anderson then hit Mike Stanley with a 3-2 pitch on his side. As Stanley walked slowly to first, Anderson was ejected, prompting a wild argument that saw catcher Brad Ausmus and manager Larry Parrish tossed by plate umpire Chuck Meriwether. "You can't work a count to 3-and-2 on a gu try to hit him," Ausmus said. "I think Chuck jumped the gun there. You just have to use some common sense." Just over a week ago in Cleveland, the same umpiring crew ejected C.J. Nitkowski during a brawl-filled contest. He was later suspended for two games. "The kid's frustrated. If he's going to throw at anybody, he's going to do it right away," Parrish said. "The way he's throwing now I don't think he could hit anybody if he wanted to." www.capecodtimes.com/story/news/1999/06/02/boston-weird-ejection-during-wild/51039461007/

Stranger things have hapened All the other teams are playing pretty poorly too...surprised the Yankees are beating up on the Astros and happy Chapman keeps blowing games for the Rangers. Even the Rockies have a lead on Toronto in the 8th inning. Ragans for Chapman has been an awful trade...it's exactly what you deserve trading for that scumbag.

Figured with a day game maybe Yoshida would get the day off so Abreu or Rafaela could get a look but nope
Verdugo Devers Turner Casas Duvall Yoshida Story Valdez Wong
Apparently Taylor Clarke is throwing for the royals instead of Greinke
I kinda wanted to see a late stage of careers Sale-Greinke matchup :/

Seems the Bear Claw game was the season buzz kill. My own attention and interest has certainly waned a bit.
With Cora not playing Rafaela or Abreu, it is a more pronounced wane

The Bearclaw game/series was the undeniable nail in the coffin. If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane.

Well out of the three guys I was touting, Casas and Turner have really been a force, Paxton not so much. His "force" got sapped as the season wore on. Others have pointed out how that might have been expected given the long layoff and the usage. It's disappointing. I'd hoped they could have a few starters step up but aside from Bello that hasn't happened.
On the upside, it does appear that they've exorcized the pitching development demon. Next year's Sea Dogs team looks to have a strong echo of the early 2000's. That's when I really started paying attention.

To state the obvious: The defense killed the Red Sox this year! The starting pitching was not good, but the defense cause extra pitches per inning and gave the opponents extra outs.

why do most of the posts give leniency to Paxton because he hasn't pitched much over the last 3 years (npt singling anyone out, seems to be the prevailing wisdon). Can't someone put up the argument that he shouldn't be tired because he hasn't pitched ?
I just think he is not the guy everyone would like him to be. Great stuff, but remember the MFY got rid of him or let him go (some demotion or something during playoffs). He is a big guy also, maybe he just gets tired during the season.
I think not pitching for 3 years is lower on the probable reasons. Look at his career numbers, nice career, but nothing too noteworthy.

It's not a moral failing. It's like saying a player shouldn't get injured; beyond just following good training processes, which I assume Paxton has done, they can't will themselves to not be tired or not get hurt.
I will say that I wish they had done the thing I had half-expected and mostly-wanted them to do at the trade deadline: trade Paxton for prospects while acquiring a Lorenzen type for lesser prospects. Something creative like that, akin to their nice little catcher shuffle at the 2022 deadline, would be looking pretty savvy right now.

Similarly, if the assumption is not pitching leads to early fatigue… why wasn’t it obvious before the season Paxton would be limited help (I mean, to yhose of us who didn’t say he’d be limited help)?

I think most assumed he would be limited based on the vast majority of comments I read on here. Many assumed he would not contribute much since he pitched zero innings last year.
