How many days does Cora have left? Any chance he doesn’t make it to the end of the season? I think Bloom and Cora make the end of season. I think Bloom is told things need to improve next year and he needs to find some major league pitchers. According to Kennedy interview pitching is the problem, well one of them obviously. Kennedy who said in an interview 10 days ago that this is a World Series caliber team? That guy is so full of hot air he may combust.

Not feeling good about the Story contract. Had that 6 week stretch last year wrapped around a whole lot of nothing. Teams give out big contracts knowing that the back end is likely to be a burden but hoping to get value out of the front end. When you fail to get value even out of the front end, that's the definition of a disastrous deal in the making. Did anyone really think after 2019 that Sale's deal was going to be a good one for the Red Sox. Sandoval's contract after 2015? Hanley's? I've begun feeling not so giddy about Yoshi's deal.

Trevor Storey sums it up perfectly and we hit rock bottom!
And it is going to be both Jim Rice AND Darnell! Should be epic!

Now I don't think I'd offer it. I'd rather take a chance on a FA SP in the Garrett Richards/Michael Wacha/Cory Kluber salary range for one year than pay Paxton $20M.

I still think if this was a team that had superior pitching depth rather than the opposite, you could've phantom IL'd him in July, given him a few weeks off to rest up, and maybe he comes back with his stuff looking like it did at the beginning of the year. But on a team that had to rely on him not missing a start and sometimes pitching on four days rest, it just looks like the workload has him spent.

My favorite part of this game was when the radio broadcast accidentally failed to cut away after the bottom of the 8th, leaving enough time to pick up Joe saying, “Who?! (The Royals reliever) - at least we weren’t shut out by that stiff”

We absolutely should have traded Paxton… But I really think that if we could have we would have. I think other teams saw him running out of gas the same as we are seeing now

A Sox fan in the stands, Friday night: "These Pennant-race protesters," he said, "A spirit of SoxNation masochism prevails, encouraged by an effete corps of impudent snobs who characterize themselves as intellectuals. In the Bay State today," he told the crowd in Kansas City, "we have more than our share of the nattering nabobs of negativism." He went after "pusillanimous pussy-footers" and "vicars of vacillation" and "the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of Sox history."

my colonoscopy saved me from watching that debacle last night. The score is brutal. There is no getting around it, both Bloom and Cora should be fired. We got some young talent coming up, so that is unfortunate for Bloom, but that is the way the cookie crumbles, unfortunately.
We will finish somewhere between 78 amd 82 wins and that isn't good enough after 4 years at the helm. And the division will remain competitive for the foreseeable future. I don't trust either to get the job done.

The Sox "chances" have been at 0 for awhile, probably since Reese McGuire got caught celebrating the walk off victory that never happened, yet another self defeating mistake the team has made over and over and over again.
That series said it all. They had a playoff spot they could have seized or at least gotten closer to. All they had to do to stay in it was not get swept. And they were at home.
At about a week before the series, I was pretty sure the Sox had a good competitive team with 2 promising months ahead of them.
Why would you trade Paxton? Keep him healthy, get Sale back and with Bello, you have a top 3 that can compete against anybody.
Bloom just needed to get a back end starter and fix the defense and find a 2b. All very doable.
Well, he did grab Urias although I think the jury is still out as to whether he puts an and to the merry-go-round of 2b theyve had since Machado mangled Pedroia's knee.
But I figured that if they could get a capable 4th starter type, it would allow for them to strengthen the pen with Houck and Whitlock returning.
I figured the cost to acquire defense, at least off the bench would be something they could do. Sort of how Theo got Cabrera, Mientkiewicz, and Roberts in 2004, guys who weren't exciting when they were acquired but could at least come off the bench and contribute defensively.
Instead they did virtually nothing. And as it turned out, I was really wrong about the team.
I was against moving Paxton. Him, Sale, and Bello, let's go!
I didn't factor in that Paxton would hit a wall after not pitching for years. My guess is Sales's mechanics are off again and it'll take him time to find it, and Bello's approaching his area where his sharpness really hasn't been there.
So the Sox rotation is a 2 old guys who can't stay healthy and hit a wall at a certain point due to having pitched so little over the last several years, a promising kid, who has never pitched a lot of innings before, which is common with how today's game works unfortunately as alot of pitchers now get gassed at 125 - 150 innings. Plus a bunch of hybrids, better suited for the pen. But at least they got to keep their openers starting, woo-hoo.
I think Paxton and Sale are still good pitchers. I think Sale can even still dominate when his mechanics are right. But they can only do it for stretches, not over the duration of the season.
So yeah I was wrong about not trading Paxton, etc. I hate seeing teams wave a white flag when they're very much in it and their problems look fixable. But I was wrong. The Sox rotation was way too fragile and flimsy, the bullpen worn out, and the defense was root cause of a lot of this. And even the offense lacks a real fear factor beyond Devers who has had a pedestrian season.
I mean, when the Sox were truly good. When did teams ever come into Fenway and sweep them? Hardly ever. That's a big tell tale sign of what this team truly is.
Wished they would have played that series against the Jays in late July. I think I might have changed my mind on what that team truly was sooner. Guess that's one of many reasons why I wouldn't make a good GM. I misjudged the team. Now it's clear what they are.
