Slaten!
Not unhappy with a split here. Of course, there are what-ifs/if-onlys from games two and three; might have taken three of four, or even a sweep.

LOL, new closer in town.
How about dem starters..
After doing many calculations and adjusting for home/away, day/night, it's obvious, the Sox will win as many games as Devers plays.

Picking up all of Weissert Campbell and Slaten on the cheap this off-season might end up looking real good

Like to see those bats come alive in Anaheim. Angels actually picked up a win over the O's today.

Massive accomplishment splitting this series, I thought they'd only win one.

Slaten is a beast. The Sox could easily have swept the series and likely would have won three of the four if Jansen had been available. I don't blame Cora for the two losses. The "roster is the roster" as someone once said. There's no point in having players on the roster if they aren't going to be used and a manager can't run his best options into the ground through over use or playing guys hurt. In the case of Joely Rodriguez someone believes in him or he would not be there. This isn't to say Cora is always right. One glaring example is him not moving off Hernandez at SS last year. That expired and was still being sold way past it's expiration date.

Obviously everyone on the roster should be used, but the manager is there to determine who should be used and when.

Happy for Slaten being able to get a save in his second career outing. Much of the pitching has looked good. Campbell looking pretty good.

Just to tie a bow on the Joely saga: he got two pop-up outs and then a K that the ump stole from him before that guy walked and Dave O'Brien's comment was "the rough series for Joely Rodriguez continues."

Please! The narrative is the narrative. Just acknowledge that Joely sucks from here on out, no matter how he performs.

Interesting to see how Seattle was adding a lot more 4 seamers to guys arsenals while we've pivoted heavily away from them. Love how aggressively the whole staff is attacking in the zone, 45 to 6 K/BB after 4 games, #1 in BB% for any MLB staff right now and pretty close to the O's in K rate.

Picking up all of Weissert Campbell and Slaten on the cheap this off-season might end up looking real good The average high end set up and is costing 8-12 million for 3 or 4 years. Breslow picked up 3 of those for league minimum and 18 years of control combined. Rebuilt half the bullpen for the next 5 years. That's not even including that Slaten could be a potential closer type that costs 16-20 million for 4-6 years potentially. So that is fantastic actually.

Whitlock needs to be paced; so in hindsight, I think it was good idea not to bring him out for the 6th even though I'd generally like to see them push guys. We'll see what Houck has tomorrow - but if he's through 5 or through 6 between 70-80 pitches, I'd really prefer they bring him out for another inning. The mariners had no hesitation bringing their guys out for another inning. Bello, Pivetta, Crawford and Houck I think all have enough innings from last season to really try to start building them up to go later in games.

Before that Emanuel Valdez 3-1 pitch that he clobbered for a home run, I had that gut feeling that he could get a fat pitch to crush. You don't want to turn it over to the top of the lineup at that point so you had to go after Valdez. He didn't miss. That was the hit of the game. I don't think Valdez goes down at any point this year.

In a really good position to come off of this road trip with a winning record. Give me 6-4 and I’ll be happy. The losses were frustrating but this seems like a clearly competent team, and there is known offensive talent that has yet to fully coalesce.

Will wait until after the Baltimore series to allow my hopes to get too high. If we're 7-6 and the pitching continues to look solid, we may have to bronze the Breslow (and the shiny new pitching coach). Having all that cap room left over suddenly will look VERY shrewd, and all our bellyaching will look equally shortsighted.

The Mariners’ pitchers have far better resumes and have proven their ability to go deep into games. I am fine in March having a guy like Whitlock go only 80 pitches. Besides, with him at that pitch count, you’re going to need to have some ready in case an at bat goes long or a couple of guys get on base. Accordingly, you’re likely not going to be saving the pen much by pulling him there. I agree with Cora’s move.

Solid win. Good series. Could have gone better. Could have gone worse. Whitlock was strong. Glad to see Slaten get another crack at things and succeeding. The rest of the pen was effective, Joely included.
I'm a huge believer in Grissom but I do like Valdez's bat, against righties anyways. It's very early, but O'Neill has provided right handed pop that they need. If he stays healthy, I do think he'll exceed 30 HRs.
