OK, so far - completely underwhelmed by Napoli. It was a given that the defense would be substandard but he's more than halfway to his AB number for last year and showing that those numbers may not have been an aberration. And pop - where's the pop? Nava's next HR will tie Napoli's total. Thank God the three year deal was voided because this guy is trending toward bust as he racks up more $$$ through plate appearances and days on the active roster.

Good April (OPS was 900+ on May 1), modest May, and 9 for his last 42. Most players have bad streaks, and if after 2 months you're in the middle of a bad streak, your numbers will not look good. "pop" is not really the problem, as he's on pace for >54 doubles and >21 hrs. Lotsa Ks, though!!

Including his dramatic decline vs. lefties as opposed to what he did from 2008-2011.

Aceves starting means I'll be finding something else to do from 7-10.

Pedroia bails out a typical lazy play by Aceves attempting to cover first on the next play

Umm... anyone else starting to wonder if Sox just didn't want to waste any Clay Buchholz bullets on this AAAA lineup?

Umm... anyone else starting to wonder if Sox just didn't want to waste any Clay Buchholz bullets on this AAAA lineup? I guess its possible... but I don't see why they would mess up his starting schedule for that. you are right about the phillies being a AAAA lineup.

Yeah I was more just making the point about the Phillies. I know they've got a decent record, but they're 23rd in baseball by pythag and that seems about right to me.
Seriously, Demon Young and Michael Young? Did Rubin Amaro lose a bet or something?

Does it seem weird to anyone else that we play 2 games in Boston and then 2 in Philly back to back? Can't really remember that ever happening before.
I am still hopeful we could take Cliff Lee's contract at the deadline. If the Phillies are sucking they may want to rebuild for the future. The Red Sox are the only team who could take every dollar of the contract, which might save us on the prospects we would have to give up, unless Phillies would choose to eat his salary and look for a big haul back. The rumors as of now are the Phillies do not want to move Lee, I am just hopeful of a playoff rotation of Buch, Lee, and Lester.

He's basically due $35M over the next two seasons or $28M over the next three seasons. That's insane.

Iglesias just essentially flung it underhand from 3B to 2B right on the money and looked completely effortless and almost turned the double play.
So few guys playing are legitimately entertaining to watch field. He's one of them, seemingly wherever he's playing

While Lee would certainly make our team much better this year, I am not terribly sure that I would want to add a 34 year old pitcher with declining K rates (under 7/9 for the first time since 2007) for what would be a 3 year 78 million dollar deal for his age 35-37 seasons. Lee does still have the incredible control and command that made him awesome (1.6 BB/ 9 ) but he does carry a lot of risk. I guess it may come down to which prospects they would want in return, If the deal could be something like Brentz & Britton + some low level live arm then sure, but anything more would likely be too much*. *Assuming that we take on the majority of the remaining contract.

Umm... anyone else starting to wonder if Sox just didn't want to waste any Clay Buchholz bullets on this AAAA lineup? Their lineup was better than Tyler Clode? He only got out of the 2nd because Nava hit a screaming liner at the LF and Pedroia drove a ball to deep rf. That's out of Citizen's Bank Park. I seriously think I could hit this guy. 84-88 with a cutter. Oooooohhh! He didn't even have that slow slop below the swing zone like a Jamie Moyer. The Phillies be in deep trouble long-term IMO.

Aceves reportedly cleaned out his locker after the game. Chris Martin hasn't pitched in a few days, but I'm guessing Morales gets called up. Wilson may be next to head down as they are carrying too many pitchers, though it should be Mortensen or Gomes on phantom injuries. Doubt they would bring up Bradley to face Cliff Lee tonight, but stranger things have happened.

Doubt they would bring up Bradley to face Cliff Lee tonight, but stranger things have happened. I think it will be Morales. He'll be up for Aceves. I think Alex Wilson sticks until we bring up a positional player. Maybe won't even bring someone up. Victorino could be up on June 5th, 2nd game of Texas series. Would like a long man in case Dempster continues his recent struggles. He can't get his fastball down and is walking the park the last few starts. Need to get him straightened out. With Doubront and Dempster scheduled to start in NY after the short trip to Philly, I think we'll carry 13 pitchers for the rest of the week. I'd like to pitch Buchholz on Thursday if he can go, gives Lester an extra day after throwing 124 pitches.

They said Morales was getting activated today during the day yesterday. Question was whether Bradley was getting activated with him (3-man bench).

Where are you getting that math from? Rotoworld lists two more guaranteed years at $25 a year (not including this one) with a club option for either $27.5 for 2016 or a $12.5 buyout. So either $31 a year for two or ~$26 a year for three (at which point he'd be 37. Not young by any means, but not exactly ancient). Isn't this exactly the kind of free agent signing you'd want them to make? A certified ace on a short term deal? If the Sox can pick up the whole contract and give up next to nothing I'd say it's a home run.

They're going to need another bench player for the NL games, so I would expect JBJ to come back (but not necessarily to start every day) until Shane-O is ready.

Didn't JBJ hit a HR of Cliff Lee in spring training? Not that I expect a repeat, just sayin' - something to think about.
