Today would be Jose Almonte's turn in the DSL rotation. He was skipped last time. If he's skipped again, I think the watch for him in the GCL is on. I note that Edwar Garcia's turn as a piggyback starter was skipped for a second time yesterday, with Enfember Martinez taking his spot there. Javier Rodriguez got the start for Almonte last week.

I'm interested to see how Simon Mercedes does. He's an interesting guy with some pretty glowing scouting reports and a big arm.

It would work out well for Almonte to pitch even tomorrow's opener for our GCL team. Either way, the GCL team will be real interesting after a "down" year last season.

If Mercedes is our replacement for Carlos Martinez in the voided-contract Dominican pitcher category, he's got some shoes to fill. It'll be hard to take his stats too seriously until we are sure he's at an age-appropriate level. I'd love to see him do well, but wonder if he really can't legitimately be on our radar until Salem.

I'm probably most interested in Jamie Callahan. I *thought* he gets an extra year because he was so young, but the SP page for him doesn't say that. Is that a #corrections or can someone help me understand that.
EDIT: Mike Meyers is listed as 2016-17 eligible, so I assume it's a correction.

He's the same age a college junior draft pick, the group that makes up the largest chunk of the New York-Penn League, so he's basically the same age as his competition. You still shouldn't read too much into his stats though, because the SS Leagues give too small of sample to be significant in general, and because too many of the players are just not any good.

My comment was more wondering his age, since there was no official finding from MLB. If he's really 20, the NYPL is a fine place for him. Nothing was found either way, MLB seems to have let it go as an 'unofficial' age, so I'll be just a bit more skeptical than I would with another player.

I'm not sure , but I think he may mean the Dominican falsification of birth certificate thing.

Jose Almonte pitch today and went 3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO per the DSL website.

There goes my theory that Cody Koback and Drew Turocy are mirror images (same age/year/history/scouting reports, nearly exact same stats, one LH one RH)

I think he managed just fine.

Another solid outing for Workman at AAA. Definitely seems to be some legitimate progress taking place. If he keeps this up for another 4 starts his trade value will reach an all time high if the team needs a chip. Otherwise he has to enter in the discussion for an emergency call up starter or at least a possible competitor for the 5th starter spot next spring.

Workman has done nothing but "work" at it since he was drafted. He was always a side-note, but guess what.....he may be passing some of the more heralded prospects and getting to Fenway earlier. Most of us still place guys like De La Rosa, Webster, and Barnes above him, but Workman just keeps chugging along.

Is it incomprehensible to trade a starter from the ML team to give opportunity to starters in Minors like what TB did last year. May be Sox can acquire a good young bat that way?

I know this is a prospect site but why would you do this from a team that leads the American League? So, yes, it is incomprehensible.
