Is that the case? The Red Sox were outscored by six runs over the course of the series, but they lost one game by one run and another by two runs and led both going into the 7th inning. The Red Sox also have a slightly better winning percentage than the Tigers, though Detroit has the better run differential.
I think it's tough to say at this point that the Red Sox are definitively worse than any of the other teams in the AL. Yeah, if Buchholz, Victorino, and Nava's injuries continue to linger, Bailey never regains effectiveness, and Iglesias starts to regress, the Red Sox might be in some trouble, but you can write out a similar analysis about any of the other AL contenders.

Agree they are all flawed. I keep looking at pitching in best 3 out of 5 (first round) and wonder if we could go toe-to-toe with Texas, and despite the Sox dominance of them so far, Tampa with a healthy David Price. Safe to say this will be much more interesting round here than last year - and that doesn't even include the trading deadline where Ben Cherrington may have to untie the gordian knot of - if you can only have one, who do you trade for: Cliff Lee, James Shields or Giancarlo Stanton?

First, they should give starter tryouts to De La Rosa, Workman and Ranaudo. If they could fill a starter spot with one of those, then the target would have to be Stanton, if he truly is available.

Agree, though I think given his performance they have to see if Aceves can behave and perform without riding the Pawtucket shuttle after every start.
I am all in for Stanton, and I think at this point, short of getting Kershaw or Harvey (neither of which happens here inside the Matrix) Bogaerts is off limits in any deal.

I cannot see KC trading Shields for less than Bogaerts, considering they just traded Wil Myers to get him.

Stanton has been mentioned as a trade possibility , but does he have the body type that is injury prone? He lost games last year and also this year. Sometimes the very big, taut muscular guys are more susceptible to nagging injuries. Just saying.

Reminder that we have a trade proposal subforum for trade ideas that come from out of thin air.

The Tigers commentators pointed out that Webster's 20 swing and misses are something that Scherzer and Verlander COMBINED have only accomplished once this year (actually they said that when he was at 19)... I'd bank on his stuff playing out at some point and so what if he takes a year+ at AAA to get a grip on command. whatever This should not be forgotten. Webster has absolutely filthy stuff-- the best in the organization from my perspective. The grand slam obviously hurt, but he didn't pitch all that terribly and I wouldn't be opposed to giving him another start next Tuesday. Aceves doesn't do a lot for me, despite the three decent spot starts so far, and De La Rosa's command isn't any better than Webster's (plus he still has pitch count limits and an innings cap). Aceves seems to be having quite a lucky season. In 6 starts: 20 BB, 18K, .897 OPS, 1.78 WHIP and he's 4-1 with a 4.45 ERA? Don't think that's sustainable. Webster has awesome stuff. He just has to get rid of those mistakes. Aceves' mistakes seem to end up as double plays this year. They're not far apart at this point.
