Will Middlebrooks, that hot breath behind you was Jose Iglesias. It's now Garin Cecchini. Get busy.

Mort to Pawtucket, Doyle to Portland Good move and glad he did clear waivers in a way. He can go 2-3 IP in garbage time, just wasn't able to put good games back to back this year. Probably back on the roster before the year is over when a reliever is hurt.

GCL suspended after 3 innings, with identical lines - 0-2-0. Completion tomorrow, according to MiLB.

I was at the GCL Red Sox game today. It looked like it was going to rain from the beginning and only took a couple innings for it to start pouring. Not a whole lot to report from the game. I took some video of a couple ABs so I will try to upload when I get a chance.
Random notes: KJ Trader and Rob Smorol were in attendance and wearing Red Sox gear. Trader does look pretty athletic and very top heavy, almost has more of a football-type body. Unsurprisingly, guys like Flores, Heras and Rijo still look incredibly young. A fan asked Trey Ball when he expects to pitch and Ball answered, "I have no idea."
I will try to catch the double-header tomorrow.

RE: Doyle to Portland, my guess is the countermove to Doyle will be a reliever to phantom DL for the four games heading into the break, then Ranaudo will be placed on TIA until he comes back from the Futures Game.
Following the All-Star break, Portland has a "doubleheader" (resumed game before scheduled game) on the 11th and a regular doubleheader on the 13th. Meanwhile, Ranaudo is pitching in the Futures Game on the 14th. My guess is that this is why Britton got scratched from the EL ASG - they need him to make his starts. I'll bet Mike McCarthy will make a spot start during that week in addition to Doyle joining the rotation.

What's going to happen with the rookie level roster situation? GCL is full, Lowell has two spots and there are 6 draftees waiting to be assigned, with at least a couple more presumably to come (although Driskel probably won't be playing this season if at all and Oliveras is going to the DSL apparently, so maybe 4). Promotions then cuts at the upper levels?

Which makes it interesting for when Mort is ready to be activated. Does Britton go back to Portland? A move with Wright or Aceves?
If Britton is permanent in Pawtucket, is he starting? Or is he i the pen?

Also, what a weird way for the PawSox to announce the Britton promotion...

I expect after trade deadline or before if slots are available you could argue promotions for Ranaudo, Almazar, Owens, Betts and my darkhorse candidate is Jacobs. Based not on his total numbers but the work the kid put in to adjust and I have been rooting for him sice drafted.
I am so pumped for this trip and shooting for .500.

Mort to Pawtucket, Doyle to Portland Mort not ready to be activated, Britton promoted instead. I'm one of the long term Britton believers and, having seen him times live, I completely agree with that Pedro Martinez guy who said this spring Britton has the best stuff in the organization. Of course his control has waned and reappeared but this year it has been good for the vast bulk of his starts.. Here's to moing em down in AAA and moving onto the bigs.

Xander today: Caught stealing, later looked terrible on two bunt attempts, then was picked off first. Maybe needs some work on fundamentals.

You have to excuse Xander. He is not use to being on base as much in AAA. But seriously, I wonder how his abats have been.
Lin off to a nice start in pro ball. Seems to have a little oomph to his swing as well. Wonder what we have here?
Don't know what to think of Brandon Jacobs. Yeah, he is hitting much better of late, but it is his second go around in that league. He seemed to have been making steady progress in his first couple of years, but they saw something they did not like and did not promote him. Then until recently he sucked. Any reports?
Is Garin C for real? Come on, no adjustment period at AA. Maybe they did not tell him that he was promoted.
Should we care that Shaw is now hitting home runs? Can't really get excited. Meanwhile Almanzar is in a little home run drought, if that means anything.
