I think Thorton's a type of guy who could benefit from a change of scenary (yesterday's game aside).
Lefthander throws mid-nineties for a semi-stalled toolsy prospect sign me up.

Not for nothing but I give him a mulligan, This series I wanted to punch out all the umpires. I can't stand the A's. Another thing they have a known cheat that's pitching and winning. But I still will miss Jacobs. I think he was pumped when he got the promotion. You have to take into account the guys who are part-timers and then commit full time to baseball. There has to be an adjustment period. I imagine Golston would have had growing pains and he was offered north of a million.

I don't mind the acquisition but apparently Farrell did not read the memo on how he was supposed to be used. Yes, there were a lot of lefties coming up when he came into the game... but it was pretty obvious that Oakland would pinch hit for at least one of them. Should have had Taz or Bailey warming up in the pen and brought in as soon as RISP and RHH up.

Story posted at MLBTR, from CSN earlier saying Matt Thornton isn't retiring (understandable) and Boston probably isn't picking up the 6m option (most of us had that figured). Curious what some here think he will get on the market. Miller is a much better option for Boston of course next season vs lefties and probably will settle for well south of 3m.. Say, 2m?
Could Thornton even expect to get 2m in guaranteed money somewhere next next year on top of the 1m buyout?
