He survived. There is no paralysis. The injuries seem to be a bit more serious than what we were led to believe before I turned in last night. But all things considered Papi was very fortunate. The outcome from these types of gunshot wounds are almost always far worse.
Can't wait to see him back at Fenway when he feels up to it.

Things starting to trickle out though who knows, it might not be accurate. Gunshots that go through the abdomen can be tricky. You may not die due to the wound but from infection, hurting a vital organ. Those are my concerns currently. Until I hear he is out of danger I won't relax. Stable condition can deteriorate very quickly. Best case scenario is the bullet went through relatively clean and missed all of the major organs. Fingers continue to be crossed...

What shocking, horrible, news. The report that he is in stable condition is slightly encouraging though. I have my fingers crossed that he can pull through.

The offense this season reminds me of two seasons ago. Almost get no hit in one game and put up 8 runs the next. Last season they were amazingly consistent not so much this one. I guess if you want to get nitpicky they are consistent in their inconsistency...

A Sheer Hart Attack (channeling some classic rock vibes)? Great album. Killer Queen was the big single but my favorite is Now I'm Here. Very underrated album, especially in the wake of the following album. Now I'm Here is a very good track. My favorite from that album had to be Stone Cold Crazy. Imo one of the great under 3 minutes long rock songs of all time...

Tonight was a fine example of what a good major league bullpen doesn't look like.
Last season everything went right. This season it seems one part of our play is costing us any given game. Either the starter is off. Or the offense can't do anything. Or the defense lets us down. Or the bullpen implodes. They are seemingly a team where something invariably will go wrong. It appears like it will be one of those years in the opposite karmic sense to last year...

Between this news and the news of Bill Buckner's passing it is not a good day to be a Red Sox fan. All careers come to ends, even the great ones, but this one does feel premature. But with the way Dustin played the game this early end to his career, sadly, was always very probable.

Very sad to hear of Bill's passing. He was one of my favorite Red Sox from that era and a borderline HoF candidate. It is annoying to me that his whole career was defined in the media by that one play. If we had a whole team of Bill Buckners we would have won the series in 86.
I guess he had Dementia with Lewy bodies, the same thing that the comedian Robin Williams had, which was the cause of his death.
RIP Bill...

Surely they'll have to promote him soon. He is putting up video game type of numbers. What is accomplished keeping him in Salem? He has proved imo that he is above this level at this point. Let's see him against more skilled competition...

Barnes comes in, 2 pitches game over.
Nice win seeing we spotted them 4. Not the best way to win a game but who cares about style points...

Very good inning by Brasier. Threw strikes, then back in the dugout quickly...

Pete Abraham Verified account @peteabe A father and son leaving the game grabbed Michael Chavis' home run ball after it landed and returned it to him. All they wanted in return was a ball signed by Dustin Pedroia. So a nice coda to an otherwise lousy day for the Red Sox. Nice to see the cool people of the world stand up and be counted. If it were me I would have asked for an autographed ball from Michael. That would have been more than enough for me...

This team really looks like one that is struggling with the weight of expectations. Won it all last season. Expecting themselves to possibly do the same thing this season. Get off to a bad start, start feeling the pressure a bit and it starts to snowball. Then throw in a panicky front office move and injuries for good measure.
I said at the end of the season opening west coast swing I thought the team needed to get home, settle in, and start playing the baseball they were capable of. Well they got home finally but it hasn't helped their play on the field.
At these times I like to remember what that great baseball player/philosopher Yogi said about 90% of the game...

We managed it somehow last season but I can foresee "moving the line" being a problem this season with the catchers and JBJ at the bottom of the line-up. JD and Devers really not producing yet either.
Plus the starting pitching is shaky to say the least (though a bit better lately) and the bullpen being much worse of late (after a good start). Using the analogy of a good team being a finely tuned machine what we have now is a complete systemic breakdown.
