Makes me wonder more what really went on with Swihart. The day they DFA'd him Dombrowski was going on about Blake needing to go some place where he would get to catch on a regular basis to help in his development. So they trade him somewhere where he is going to be used the same way as he was in Boston. In fact Arizona sounds like they plan to use him very little, if at all, behind the plate... As much as they would have liked to get Swihart to a place that would have been good for him, they're ultimately going to make the trade they like best, even if it sucks for Swihart. It looks as if Wilson was on a list of guys they really liked. At the risk of appearing to be overly critical of the team I love if a story was written about Swihart's time in the organization it would be titled "Even if it Sucks for Swihart". Accurate right up, and including, the last chapter...

I really hoped Swihart would go to a small market team and get a chance to play regularly and catch 5 days a week. He went to the same situation on a different team. So sad Makes me wonder more what really went on with Swihart. My final thought on this until if/when there is any further information on this move.
I think this is a blessing for Swihart. He was never going to get a proper shot with this organization for whatever reason(s). Pulling the plug on him after giving the job, just 17 games in? This was the 2nd time they pulled that crap on him. If I was Swihart I would be saying "good riddance!" to this organization. Obviously he is going to end up on his feet somewhere...which will probably be a place that treats him with much more professionalism than the Red Sox did.

Well the was depressingly predictable. Our pitcher throws on 0-2 pitch that gets hit out for a slam. Our hitter comes up with the bases loaded and pops up the first pitch.
We're going to be struggling all season trying to dig ourselves out of this hole. We'll have some good stretches and just when we think they're on the right track...
I think that this is just going to be one of those seasons. I don't think we'll be this bad all season but we probably will never resemble the 2018 Sox.

One scout I was texting with yesterday: "He gone." A different scout I was texting with yesterday: "I could see us claiming him." It certainly is likely he gets claimed, I'm just hoping that looking back we can all say, "I may or may not agree with the move but at least it makes some sense." Another logical reason for the timing is they need a better trade chip to pick up a platoon 2B after seeing the state of affairs there, knowing Swihart is of interest to a team that has a player they like. For me I am almost certain that looking back at this it will make as little sense as it does now. The only thing I am certain of is finally Swihart gets to start getting on with his career.

Just got home from my meeting. Glad I missed this one.
Cora has been touted as the ultimate players manager. I guess it is time to prove that though what just happened to Swihart might not help his cause. This is a dispirited, lifeless, team right now.

I will miss part of this first game. I am a member of town government where I live and our commission (Inland Wetlands) meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm. Normally I get very annoyed at missing any part of a Red Sox game (especially against the MFY's) but my heart just isn't into it tonight. I really hate the business side of baseball sometimes...

I think this Chris Hatfield tweet is spot on...
"Next time you're upset a player isn't blindly loyal to your favorite team, remember things like this. Being in this organization has been a net negative for Swihart since 2016."
So when Mookie goes it won't upset me as much when I put it into this ^^^ context.

When is our love affair with Vazquez's potential going to come to an end? When he can hit like he did that 1 season or close to it and his D and arm return. If not then it will be back to the drawing board. Until then we can make due with Leon and CV like last year. I don't know what it is but catchers like Tony Pena, Tek and Leon get pitchers to pitch better. Is it confidence, game calling or not being afraid to throw it in the dirt I don't know maybe all of that and more but it is a real thing and it makes a difference. How many runs did they score last year with a blackhole in the order? I don't think Vazquez will ever get that close offensively again. And his defense has regressed. Sale couldn't pitch to him. It was the reason that Swihart was DFA'd. I will be more than a bit suspicious if Sale's velocity all of a sudden dramatically increases now.
As far as the offense goes, this is 2019. We ain't in Kansas anymore Toto. The last game of the Orioles series we had 1 run on 4 hits against Straily and bunch of their bullpen arms. Leon and Vazquez catching is going to help this how?

Our love affair with Swiharts potential finally comes to an end. It does hurt a bit but he hasn't hit since 2105 and you can say he was never given a starters chance but he never earned it either. Just the way it goes sometimes right, like Henry Owens and Lars Anderson they don't all meet their potential. Maybe he does it somewhere else but that is a big maybe when nobody is willing to cough up anything. Good luck though Blake. When is our love affair with Vazquez's potential going to come to an end?

At some point the SP's have to get up to regular season speed, right? Their 3rd starts of the season maybe?
It wasn't a bad start by Price tonight. Just the one bad inning. The offense has been posting some numbers even though the situational hitting has been suspect at times. The starters have just been digging too deep a hole for the offense to climb out of...
I don't think the team is complacent. Right now they look tight. Tight/pressing teams seem to find a way to make mistakes. They need to get home, relax, and start playing the ball that everyone, us and them, know their capable of.

You cannot say enough bad things about Cora’s handling of spring training. Talk about an example of being too smart for your own good. This team was totally unprepared to start the season.
On top of which they look like a team that is desperate to get home to see their wives/girlfriends and kids. They haven't been home since the beginning of February. An extended trip to the other coast to start the season is just plain brutal.

That is more like it. A good break. A great game by Swihart. And another dominant game for the pen. This offense is too good to keep down...

We just can't win in that place. Back-to-back shut outs. Losing to a team that had 1 run on 3 hits. Only one way to go at this point...

We had righties on the bench. Yet 3 LHB went to the plate resulting in 3 K's. The one RHB got a double. It was the 7th at this rate they (Moreland and Holt) probably wouldn't have got up again this game. I don't get it...

I am good with Sale tonight. Velo is down but he is getting outs. Nice quick inning right there.

All of the other issues aside. I love this deal. Xander was the one I thought we'd have the hardest time signing (his agent and the agent's history). It's a good contract for the club. Xander wants to be here. I am very happy that he is happy and going to be a Red Sox for a long time to come.
