Yoshida has already reached on like 5 errors this year. It's been bizarre. He’s elite at inducing errors lol Carries an 80 scout rating...

Pitch clock and constriction of shifts are a huge boon to baseball enjoyment. If there prove to be glitches in the pitch clock process, they will be ironed out. The concepts are great.
It was amazing to me that fans were chanting "Yosi" in his first game. Pretty cool....
Love Casas' eye and plate discipline...

I definitely get caught up in the size thing, but then I think… Yaz was 5’11” 175. How big do you have to be to hit for power? Smaller players might not hit 500-foot home runs, but all you need is 1 foot more than the fence. In days of yore, Mickey Mantle was listed at 5'11" and 195. He hit 536 home runs.

Eovaldi was my choice. He was hitting 97 repeatedly in Spring Training. Heck of a spot for Kelly to make his debut. Personally, I preferred Eovaldi over Kluber (even though I've always LOVED Kluber). I wanted both, but if I had to pick, I was taking Eovaldi. Still, obviously very, very early. You might have loved Kluber when he was throwing 95-96...He is Eckersley "salad"...

Winck missing bats 👀👀👀 In re: Houck he had a wonky spring last year iirc. Had trouble locating. Once real game action hit he was mostly good. So I’m not overly concerned there…but we should keep an eye on it just in case Houck was throwing 92-93 today. Has his velocity dropped since last year? My recollection is that he was 95 or so then.

Rafaela to me is hard to pin down. Defensively he's supposed to be at the very least very good at SS and even better at CF. So the glove and versatility gives him a high floor. His bat however scares me, I've never been a big fan of low obp type guys. He's too free a swinger for me to be too bullish on him right now. I think by May or June he'll be in CF. I'm not super high on his bat for the reasons you mentioned, but I think with an outfield of Yoshida/Duvall/Verdugo the need for outfield defense will be great, particularly if Duval doesnt hit enough. At that point the Sox might figure, the hell with it, we're not getting much offense out of that spot anyways so let's get a badly needed glove to stabilize the OF defense. I think Rafaela is a bottom of the order unless he becomes more discerning at the plate. If he does you're talking a potential all star, but that's a huge if. I believe that there were reports that Rafaela was working on pitch selection following last season and that he had made progress. I saw a few of his televised at bats this spring looking specifically for that aspect and, to me, he looked like he was doing a good job of laying off. I have no doubt about his bat otherwise.

I am at the game. It appeared that Turner was taken to the hospital as I did not see him go into the dugout. Sale was 93-94...2 hits and a 400 foot line out to right center. 2 Ks.

Seattle and 1 other team can't recall, have the countdown timer clock behind the catcher, or to the left (looking in) which makes it easy for pitchers to see time remaining. Why all teams did not install something akin to this over the winter is beyond me. Got to believe that it will be universal once the season starts. I have tickets at jetBlue for tomorrow's game. Sale is scheduled to pitch...

Duran looking perhaps better at the plate but picked off and caught stealing sounds like the Duran we know. He just does not have those instincts when it comes to tracking fly balls and good base running. Maybe something to do with an inability to instantly recognize and process spatial relationships? The way some dogs right from the get go will pluck popcorn out of the air on their first try and others let the popcorn hit them on the head and then eat it off the floor. Funny analogy...our dog is one of the latter. But, yeah I can see your point with Duran..

Growing up in southern Maine, I recall a number years when the Sox of yore would win a lot in Spring Training. Euphoria would abound.....Then the gun would go off and despondency would descend upon the masses of fandom for yet another year. My psyche acquired a thick buffer of callus.

Well, great. Historically it seems that you have had 4 negative comments to one positive for a team with the first or second best record in the NBA. So glad that we are not second tier! That’s inaccurate, but how many times are we going to have this same argument? If my posts bother you this much, ignore them and move on. It’s a pretty simple solution. Hey buddy. Based on your seemingly predominantly negative celtic comments, I have indeed bypassed most of your input. But, if My comments to the contrary impact you so, feel free to block or ignore me. The Cs have the first or second best team NBA record. Disparaging our players or the team under these circumstances just seems wrong. I'm fully behind our guys while understanding human frailties. I wish that you were too.

How has he done thereafter? Where is your praise to counter ever present negativism? Literally the post right above yours. Well, great. Liked Rafaela's two AB's today. Good solid contact twice and only one swing at a ball out of the zone. ( if that, the pitch was close). Glad to hear Merloni highlight Rafaela's stellar outfield defense on several occasions today...saying he could be gold glove already. I've seen few Rafaela games truthfully, but just the same, witnessed some specular CF catches.. Hearing Merloni chime in on that score gave some validation to my in person observations. No one should sleep on Bleis in that department either....another excellent run 'em down guy. IF they continue to develop offensively, we'll have a helluva n' outfield in a couple of years. The minors will be extra fun to follow this season.

Have a day Matthew Lugo I like the sound it made coming off his bat I don't know, but this kid seems to impress at every level, whether it's, fall ball, winter ball, Greenville, now Spring Training. He just doesn't seem to be phased or overmatched whether he's facing a major leaguer or rookie ball pitcher. I think he's gonna be a big leaguer, either here or somewhere else. Yeah. As I have noted before, SteveofBradenton and I watched Lugo in Florida. For us both, Bleis, Rafaela and Lugo have been primary standouts the past couple of years here. Lugo can field, has a good arm and has developed pop. I wish more of soxprospects nation could enjoy the FCL (GCL) as we have been fortunate enough to for a good number of years. Lucky.

Really guy? How much does a manager contribute to team wins vis a vis its representative talent level? 2-4 wins from positive esprit and decision making? Hard to quantify..But, I don't think any manager can take a 70 win team, based on talent, to a world series champion. Given your apparent stance, what manager would you advance to take the Pirates or KC to the playoffs and on what basis? You seem to be saying what I said… no manager can be held accountable for a bad team. So the manager of the Pirates should have job security as long as they don’t add a ton of talent. To me, the questions are deeper. Are young guys developing? Are you getting the most out of people? Putting guys in a position to succeed? On this site, many are picking the Sox to win 85-90 games. So 80 wins *would* be undershooting to some of the fanbase. If you think Cora should be safe if they are under .500, would you fire Bloom? Surely someone must be accountable if they are sub .500 two years in a row? I think Cora, or any manager, should be judged not solely on wins and losses...but on cumulative team talent provided, his baseball knowledge, in game strategy, maintaining esprit and confidence in his decision making, dealing with players fairly and honestly, handling the media inquiries straight forwardly, and from all the foregoing, commanding and retaining respect of the team members enabling best performances. On history, I don't fault Cora one bit. He checks a lot of boxes. I think that he has performed very well given what he has had coupled with various injuries. Do I blame Bloom? My grade is incomplete. He is not solely responsible for our lower than hoped for talent level. Yes he seems markedly influenced by his Ray pedigree focused on finding gems at the margins resulting in some good, some not so. He has made forward looking decisions and tried to improve the farm with a number of trades...some from a weakened vantage point given financial constraints. Sadly the trades have apparently not markedly improved the farm to date but affording some future financial flexibility. I don't think his drafts have been bad. Clearly, we are in transition. I have good vibes about Casas, Rafaela and Mayer among others. Next year we will have more financial freedom to acquire talent and legitimately challenge. I was a 40 year long suffering Sox fan growing up even when there were only 16 mlb teams. I have experienced 4 world series championships since 2004. How damn lucky!

Would any substandard team performance be Cora's fault or the team talent level assembled? C'mon most believe (including the players) that Cora is a fine, fair man and manager. Talent wins out in most cases including with our current Sox. If that is the case, teams like the Royals and Pirates should never fire their managers. Really guy? 80 wins or Cora should be on the hot seat. More importantly don't finish in last place. Would any substandard team performance be Cora's fault or the team talent level assembled? Appears to be a prototypical Bloom strand of pasta with a dollop of marinara flung toward the proverbial wall. I'm guessing the Sox may have felt German had topped out and maybe Denglinger might still be al dente
