This seems odd, no? They can play a DH tomorrow, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Am I missing something? It's not a meaningful game because they determine postseason teams by half-season records, and Down East already clinched the division for the first half. Not meaningful for the gate, either, since a doubleheader would have been single-admission anyway.

When it comes to Song, I am definitely through with denial and anger, but still moving fluidly between bargaining and depression.

Everything about the Catapult technology fascinates me--how it works, what they learn from it, who they use it on. The trainers are perpetually following guys around to make sure the technology doesn't end up in the laundry. A lot of guys were wearing them in spring workouts. Lots of other fun tech around during workouts, both on the high end and the relatively low end.

I probably had about 5-10 of them across the full episode, never before in other episodes. The last one was right after the 1 hour 39 minute mark. Same here--and I'm pretty sure at least some of them involved missing content. (That said, it covered a chunk of my drive back from Brooklyn and I'm very grateful!)

As far as I know no Brooklyn Cyclones were injured on this play (a Blaze Jordan single) but it seemed to leave devastation in its wake. (Paulino stopped at 3B before scoring on the Gonzalez double.)

Bonaci is on the IL; Simas up So much for Bonaci being my consolation prize when I head to Brooklyn later this week. Whiffed on him in spring training thanks to his late arrival.

Walk off for the Sea Dogs. Tyler McDonough this time. Jacob Webb appears to be a gentle giant, but apparently Brendan Nail may be a holy terror, at least as far as the walkoff scrum.

Per the WooSox notes, countermoves for adding Drohan and reinstating Sherriff from Boston are releasing Edwin Diaz and Jake Thompson.
Edit: note for future me--shorter posts break news first!

Yesterday's postgame Portland recap named Brendan Nail as today's starter, even though the game notes earlier in the day still listed Sharp (who went on the 7-day IL 5/10).

By the way, since we're all learning it, it's pronounced as though you are telling someone to back off: he's not Your Droth, he's My Droth. It's not pronounced as though you are living in the jungle: "You Tarzan, Me Droth." This has been a public service announcement. I'm not sure if they will update this, as it's not fully comprehensive and seems to date to the start of the season, but Portland's "Online Press Box" has a link to a SoundCloud page with players saying their own names. I believe this should be mandatory for all clubs, personally.

Mata looked uncomfortable before the last pitch he threw, trying to stretch between pitches, but then kind of lobbed his last fastball at 86. Alfaro caught it and just kind of stared at him and then everyone went out to the mound. Didn't look like a sudden injury.

A random note from yesterday's WooSox game (unfortunately only the second game I've seen in Worcester so far this year)--the WooSox challenged multiple pitch calls correctly while on defense (I presume decisions made by catcher Ronaldo Hernandez). They did lose at least one challenge by a batter (I forget who). Bisons ran out of challenges by getting three wrong. I really like the system--it's much faster than I would have expected and the scoreboard graphic is great. It does show the zone as a plane, not a 3D volume of space, but I'm assuming they've accounted for that and it's simplified to show the slice of the volume where the ball passed through the zone (if it did).

Looks like the same basic schedule as last year for the FCL team, with Wednesday and Sunday off days and Friday/Saturday always against the Twins (one home one away). Last game scheduled before playoffs looks like Tuesday 8/22.

Would've bet good money on a Wreck of the Ryan Fitzgerald pun but doesn't quite work does it? When I saw Salem in Wilmington in 2019 they played it every time he came to the plate. Every time.

He seems intriguing. Good start to the season for him Some draft notes on Coffey say that he doesn't throw particularly hard (~89-90mph in limited Trackman sample) but that he throws from a low release point with outlier release coordinates both vertically and horizontally. So he actually kind of throws hard for someone with his release point and the FB itself has lots of horizontal movement. His slider also apparently has a ton of movement as well. Perhaps the craziest thing about his profile is that he can throw strikes reasonably well despite this profile with lots of movement from a funky release. Has anyone seen him throw this year to back any of this up? I can't speak to the movement of his pitches, but I put a few unedited sequences of frames from when I saw Coffey at the Fort up here. Not as good as video, obviously, but if you click through them it gives you a feel for his pitching motion.
