Some feel Boston is close on Christian Dvorak. Others say Krejci could ne announced soon. Doubt they are both happening. An article I read yesterday or the day before suggested they might be getting Dvorak to play with Hall. It doesn't sound like they think it would be a huge cap hit. Would be nice to have some depth for that top 6, Smith slides down and builds some chemistry with Coyle while all are healthy, but then can easily slot into that second line if a wing needs a night off. Love the pick. That type of player is so needed on this team. Also do not understand the Ritchie or Kase moves. feels really out of left field to me. Chance to free up a good chunk of money for a Defensive upgrade--which is needed--and we leave the money stuck in those two guys.

If you're the GM, what's your team for next year? This has a list of the top players being exposed: www.nbcsports.com/boston/bruins/2021-nhl-expansion-draft-list-best-players-exposed-krakenObviously that's subjective, and each team's list might have another player debatably better. Like for the Bruins, they might take Lauzon or Zboril over Clifton, particularly because Leach is in their staff now. List re-printed here from the article linked above: Anaheim Ducks: Kevin Shattenkirk, D Boston Bruins: Connor Clifton, D Buffalo Sabres: Jeff Skinner, LW Carolina Hurricanes: Nino Niederreiter, LW Columbus Blue Jackets: Max Domi, C Calgary Flames: Mark Giordano, D Dallas Stars: Ben Bishop, G Detroit Red Wings: Vladislav Namestnikov, RW Florida Panthers: Chris Driedger, G Los Angeles Kings: Jonathan Quick, G Montreal Canadiens: Carey Price, G New Jersey Devils: P.K. Subban, D Nashville Predators: Ryan Johansen, C; Matt Duchene, C New York Islanders: Josh Bailey, RW; Jordan Eberle, RW Ottawa Senators: Matt Murray, G Philadelphia Flyers: James van Riemsdyk, LW; Jakub Voracek, RW St. Louis Blues: Vladimir Tarasenko, RW Tampa Bay Lightning: Yanni Gourde, C; Tyler Johnson, C; Ondrej Palat, RW; Alex Killorn, LW Toronto Maple Leafs: Jared McCann, LW; Alex Kerfoot, C Vancouver Canucks: Jake Virtanen, RW Washington Capitals: Conor Sheary, LW Here's your complete list since the above is just one writer's opinion on best available (and he only lists 21 teams): www.nhl.com/news/nhl-expansion-draft-protected-list-for-seattle-released/c-325681800?tid=289242400

BTW - with the Carlo extension, looks like Boston has 26,156,612 in Cap Room with the following needs Re-sign Krejci (or find a replacement) Re-sign Hall (or find a replacement) Sign/Trade for a Top 4 LHD Sign a goalie - this'll be interesting given Rask's injury. As stated before, don't think you can go with Swayman/Vladar (as much as I like them). Need a vet (backup, at least). Don't we need to take a pretty serious look at getting McAvoy extended too? I know technically we can drag it into next year since he's RFA next year, but seems much smarter to look hard at getting that sorted now?

I haven't looked thoroughly at the site today to see if they've incorporated today's changes.

www.audacy.com/weei/sports/bruins/bruins-mock-offseason-expansion-draft-free-agency-moreScott McLaughlin playing mock GM. Here are at least some thoughts for constructing for next year. --handshake deals with Hall and Krecji before Expansion draft, sign them afterward for team friendly deals. --Rask when healthy for team friendly, or decide you want experience during season, sign Jonathan Berneir type --create good 3rd line, do NOT leave 3rd and 4th solely up for competition for the kids. He wants Blake Coleman, thinks TB can't afford to keep him, and he wants Nick Bonino --He wants Jamie Oleksiak to accompany McAvoy on top pair, and Jake McCabe. (thinks Martinez bidding goes too high for Bruins to fit him under cap) Losing Debrusk in trade to free up space, Ritchie, Senyshyn, Kase all non-tendered; Kuraly walks; Lauzon likely is lost to expansion. Sounds conflicted on Reilly, but ultimately thinks money better elsewhere. Thinks problem with signing Bernier is that you have to expose Vladar to waivers, OR, you have to stash Swayman in AHL, when you really want Swayman getting the bulk of your games. He prefers the Rask approach. So there's one man's plan. Carlo at 4 million aav scares me a bit with the concussions. Me too...I'm not enough of a hockey contract buff to know if there are performance clauses in the NHL? As in the MLB, where you could give him % or hard # of games played bonuses, with a lower base? Is that a thing in hockey?

All the players you wanted to say, "I don't want to play anywhere else" and "I don't want to maximize my value, it's not all about money at this point in my career" said those things. So if you get extremely team friendly deals on Hall, Krecji, Rask you probably do that--after the expansion draft of course. You're stuck with Coyle, and have Lazar another year, but the other wingers on 3rd or 4th line are all subject to change, even if you're saddled with Wagner too. texs31, I hear you about Debrusk, it's hard to forget those moments of glory the Bruins had from him, but for some reason, he's another Charlie Coyle type it seems--leaves you dreaming on a few moments here and there, but ultimately he's complacent in some way that coaching (at least our coaching) can't seem to reach him. I was reading some Wild fan's blog about Coyle, and didn't it make me feel like we got suckered into Coyle's pattern, and also into Debrusks. Dreaming on a flash, hoping for more, but ultimately, those two guys are who they are it seems to me. I don't know that a change of scenery will change either of them for more than 6 months. It sure didn't with Coyle. It changed those 6 months, and now he's right back into mediocrity being overpaid. I think you expose Debrusk and hope The Kraken take him and his contract off your hands. He's not likely to find consistency here for certain--Cassidy seems at the end of his rope with him. The only way I think you don't expose him is if you think there is a trade you can make with any sort of asset return, but this seems unlikely.

People are just traumatized by the Trey Ball pick. It’s really as simple as that. Especially since Meadows was available and that’s who they thought we’d get and he has been kick ass. I think you mean devastated.

First up is the expansion draft. Most decisions are obvious: protected- Forwards- Bergeron, Marchand, Pastrnak, Coyle Defense- McAvoy, Carlo, Grzelcyk Goalie- Vladar 3 more forwards to protect and the candidates are Smith, Ritchie, DeBrusk and Frederic. To me, Frederic is a no-brainer. The argument for Smith is that they probably wouldn't take him, but I wouldn't risk it for the other two guys. I'd probably leave whichever guy I thought had better trade value, because I'm thinking I don't want to pay either. Do you at all consider leaving Coyle exposed to potentially erase his godawful contract off the books?

I started the Offseason thread, let's move over there after the sting wears off. The Roster needs some serious work.

www.capfriendly.com/teams/bruinsThere are a ton of contracts and money coming off the books this winter. Rask and his 7 million hopefully gone. Krecji and his 7.25 hopefully gone. (If he'd take a super team friend deal like Chara used to, I'd be all in, but I bet he tries to get another small deal if he can find it, I just hope it's not from us. His performance has been off for years relative to the money he's making. Kase and his 2.6 mill gone. Richie and 1.498 gone, I can't imagine we can't get better performance out there somewhere. Kuraly, 1.275, who knows? I personally find him ineffective for all but 2-3 regular season games each year, the rest of the year, he's the literal definition of JAG. Halak, 2.25 also hopefully gone. Swayman at 925k replaces Rask Vladar at 750k replaces Halak. Unfortunately with terrible drafting and roster management, you have next to nothing waiting in the pipeline at this point, or they would have played in the playoffs in '21. Either they go free agent shopping or get creative around the draft, free agency and poaching other teams young talent that got themselves into roster jams. Major Questions: Resign Hall? Depends on how low he's willing to accept in my opinion. Resign Reilly? Try to find a buyer for Debrusk's 3.675 per year for next year? Hope he figures out how to play high level hockey again? Buyout Coyle? Obligatory: Seems like you have to get a long term deal with McAvoy worked out. Seems like you have to get a long term deal with Carlo worked out. His injury history is getting a little worrisome though...

Tukka's last game as a Bruin?? I'm not in any way, shape or form a Tuukka basher. But it should be. Age, injuries, Swayman's potential and the need to spend money in so many other places means he should be let go. Find another cheap vet back-up. Agree. The roster, such as it is, really needs to have money applied to other areas if they want that proverbial one more shot with Bergeron and Marchand. Swayman is a huge savings. Krecji vs. his performance has been overpaid for years. Coyle is super overpaid currently. The roster and pipeline are so weak right now, shuffling money might be the only game available to improve the roster.

ps, the lack of calls on the after the whistle shenanigans against McAvoy was inexcusable by the terrible refs.

Ever wanted to see a team that just quits? Here they are.
3 unforced errors in the second, 3 gift goals. They want to be done with this season. Objectively I can't blame them, it was probably a horrible schedule to play...but if they want that cash, i hope someone remembers this apathy this period.

Devastating loss. Very sloppy and not good enough on the PK, obviously. But we were still the better team. A little bad luck and some terrible officiating. When it's this over the top, right or wrong, you have to question the integrity of the entire league. It is a logical assumption even if wrong. After the Ref being fired for the hot mic, how can the league not be under fire? This is not a "one bad cop" scenario. The refs clearly hear that stuff from their colleagues all the time and are fine with it. It's a systematic problem within the league.

Bergeron hasn't looked right except maybe one game in the playoffs. Something is again wrong with him. Which begs the question--is he capable at this age, in this game, to play healthy? Seems like we get about 10% of Bergeron in the playoffs at this point in his career.
Marchand and Pasta looked good tonight, but it almost felt like Coyle was their center.
Krecji finally woke up, but now Hall is hurt or distracted. What he was bringing to the team is now missing.
Third line and fourth line, basically vanished.
I really wanted to see this team get one more or at least a finals with the core and choke one more away like they did against the bhawks and blues, but at this point, it looks like it's time to consider life after this core. Doubt they're signing Krecji this offseason or rask for big money, which means they're probably gone. Payroll locked into virtually worthless coyle. Trying to build around Pasta, McAvoy and Swayman is going to take awhile...I'll hope for a win Wednesday, but I'm not expecting one. And Cassidy, while the sort of Terry Francona type who inherited a good core and kept it running, can't seem to figure out this current puzzle. Granted, his pieces are extremely limited.

It was a crap call, but it's also Kuraly again, who seems to get the dumb shouldn't have been called penalties. HOWEVER, Rask...really, no screen...I miss the chance that Swayman never got.

I think making DeBrus the scapegoat for bottom 6 problems is riiodculous. A bunch of changes could have been made to shake things up. Instead, we swap out one of two bottom 6 guys who's scored more than a goal for a scrub like Kuhlman. Ritchie has been disappearing since March and not giving any effort, but he's left alone. Would like to have seen Studnicka and Frederic, bring some young energy and c=scoring potential. Early effort from Ritchie at least. Marchand and Pasta! Nice! Spot on. While Debrusk is frustrating because of his inexplicable inconsistency--show me that Wagner or Kuraly are playing better by some metric. Let's see some changes to Line 4 that might bring a spark.

I saw an exhausted team tonight. I don't know that I've ever seen McAvoy so wiped out.
Pasta had an off game, part of his on again off again way of playing the game. I hope they can go home and get some rest and turn it around, based on fatigue and effort tonight, they're done. I hope they bring a new mentality Monday Night.

Ugh, Pasta, please buddy....
Why can't Grzelcyk control those pucks on the blue line and keep them in the zone.
Please puck gods, come back and give us some bounces...
