A hit from a Sox third baseman. What a sight. WMB is still the most likely IMO to provide a major boost to the playoffs this season. XB is certainly the best long term option for the left side, but unless WMB completely tanks the next two weeks, there's no rush to bring Xander up before September. It's not like they don't have many ways to get him on the postseason roster if they wanted anyways

I luv me some X guys but lets take it down a bit. He's not just gonna come in a lead the team to a division title.

I really can't make any excuses for Napoli at this point. He can't catch up to even average velocity anymore and is just hoping to run into one out there.
On the other hand, Middlebrooks has looked solid since coming back.

Very nice hustle by Mr. Middlebrooks on the double and turning the shallow single into a run.

Well the game is tied now so it wasn't over as some nut job suggested earlier.

Konerko waived today. Would you claim if he gets to the Sox?

Konerko waived today. Would you claim if he gets to the Sox? He was placed on revocable waivers and has ten-and-five rights (i.e., can veto a trade), which means he's probably going to cost something to acquire.

Konerko waived today. Would you claim if he gets to the Sox? I'd claim either him or Morneau. But we likely wouldn't get either. If we are truly in it to win it this year, getting one of these guys would be a savvy move.

Middlebrooks is a good player. He is still young and has room to improve. He had a hole in his swing which is how he got exploited by good pitchers.
Napoli on the other hand is just bad now and we need to start playing this guy called Mike Carp more.

Its not really coincidental that the Red Sox offense is the best in the league and they make starters throw a lot of pitchers and get into bullpens early.

I luv me some X guys but lets take it down a bit. He's not just gonna come in a lead the team to a division title. It's worth noting that Bogaerts has been struggling lately. .589 OPS with a 7/1 K/BB in his last ten. As great as he is, I'm sure he's still got exploitable weaknesses in his game, and if the Sox want him to work through that in the IL instead of asking him to do it at the major league level, I don't really have a problem with that.

Konerko waived today. Would you claim if he gets to the Sox? Konerko is having a pretty miserable season, some of which is BABIP, but he's also not hitting for any power and his walk rate has collapsed. I don't see how he's a better bet than Mike Carp.

Do you guys seriously think Konerko would be an upgrade at this point? Guy has a sub .270 OBP since the first of July and has only 4 XBH over that period. (Granted there was DL stint sprinkled in there). Even with his 47% strikeout percentage this month Mike Napoli still has managed a .340 OBP, so if anything I see Konerko as a downgrade.

Seriously Farrell. Stop playing this guy.
And if you are gonna play he can't be in the middle of the order.

Yeah, didn't realize how bad he was this year. I'd still go after Morneau.

The sheer awfulness of Napoli has driven Red Sox nation to seriously consider the likes of Morneau and Konerko as upgrades and has caused Jose Abreu to loom in the mists as the next Great Hope. That's how bad he is.

Seriously Farrell. Stop playing this guy. And if you are gonna play he can't be in the middle of the order. You know, when Ortiz looked done, and Francona was still just running him out there every day in the middle of the lineup... I mean, I didn't like it (I was probably wrong), but I at least understood why you would show loyalty to a player like him. Franchise legend and all that. But Napoli? What the hell? He's a one year rental. It's like when we talk about closers, and there's this idea that these guys are comfortable in the role, etc. Ok, so I'm not going to tell Joe Giardi that he needs to bring Mariano in for a runners on base situation in the seventh inning. But why does Bo Porter need to treat a guy making the league minimum who's just happy to have a job like that? I just don't understand the loyalty to players who've done nothing to earn it.

God. Damnit.
Tazawa overthrew on both 1-1 and 2-1. Grooves a fastball 3-1. Just can't do that.
