We should sweep here. At least win the series with a tough series in LA next up.

Perhaps, but it won't be easy with our top two starters not playing.

Apologies if this made it's way into another thread, but it appears as though Pedey, Salty, and Gomes were doing some advanced scouting yesterday: link

I would be very happy going 2 out of 3 in any series on the road. Notwithstanding the fact with Dempster starting one of those games and without lackey or buchholz pitching.
Even bad teams can be pretty decent at home as we all know.
Once Buchholz comes back I think we'll be fine. Not sure about the playoffs, but as far as winning the division.

It's great that they went. But, Gomes did play for Oakland last year. And, the A's have; Reddick, Lowrie and Moss. Maybe, Pedey and Salty also wanted to see a friend on a rare non-playing day. Pedey played with Moss at Portland.

Great pitching matchup in the second game, with a couple of top-flight aces going at it! [/2010]

Drew should be hitting higher than Salty and Napoli should have been dropped for a while. Middlebrooks is probably better than what they have had for a while at 3rd.

I like to look at the stats at benchmark positions during the season; 1/3, 1/2, 2/3 and 3/4. After 4 1/2 innings tonight we are done with 75pct of our season. Papi has 22 hr's. He will probably be the only Sox hitter to reach 20. Napoli has 14 and is swinging a telephone pole. Yet, we are second in runs per game. Have 605. 5 more than Detroit but we've played 3 more games. Only about a 10 run difference which is insignificant. Relevance? A productive offense without HR hitters looks to be how Ben Cherington wants to build this offense. A circular line-up. 1-9. Don't want to start a pissing contest but an early prediction from me is that we sign Drew for 3 years and Xander plays 3b next year. I see WMB traded in a package for a 1b.

Daniel Nava #5 hitter is a worse idea than Mike Napoli #5 hitter ever was.

Daniel Nava #5 hitter is a worse idea than Mike Napoli #5 hitter ever was. Nava hits righties well. 851 OPS. 22 of his 26 XBH with 75pct of his ab's vs righties. And, if they bring Cecil in for a big at-bat late. We have Gomes to pinch hit. I'd have went with Carp at 1b tonight to get another lefty in there and bat him 6th.

I can't see that but at this point I do believe if Drew accepted the QO he would end up playing for the Sox rather than being traded away as I would have thought a month ago.

Nava is hitting .219/.324/.281 in the second half and since July 13th he's only at .205/.300/.250.
Yeah, let's slot him in the 5 hole and continue to play him over Carp because it makes perfect sense.

No. Xander is a Shortstop. We have Middlebrooks as well as Cecchini on the farm. Makes literally no sense to sign Drew to a 3 year deal. The QO makes sense for 1 year, but anything beyond that is just another Julio Lugo situation waiting to happen.

Does an .851 OPS really represent any ability he's shown for nearly two months now? Let's stop pretending that Nava is some sort of sabermetric wet dream who is grabbing walks and hitting the ball hard because he just hasn't been that.

Looking at the stat line you'd think Redmond must be a lefty...
