**** Are you Don Zimmer's son? ****
Please, please never accuse any one, nor manager of being as inept as Don Zimmer was. Any manager who couldn't win at least **1** pennant with the extreme that buffoon had must have had a steel plate in his head (Zim did)and the worst ownership, combined with clueless GM in memory led by Haywood Sullivan.
**7** AS one season, a rotation of Dennis Eckersley, El Tiante, Mike Torrez and Bill Lee in 1978. AS caliber 1-9 even and 1977 team only a shade less, yet here was Zim-less holding back a certain SP 2.. Sometimes 3 days so they could start against a certain team.. During the '77 season, throwing Campbell out on the mound, even after he had let the team know he was hurting for multiple injuries and blew his arm out, one of the best in the game.
Moron is too much praise for Zimmer. Please don't accuse anyone of being like that bungling idiot.
As awesome as that '78 staff was it could have had Fergie Jenkins on it, but Zim was on a mission to rid himself of the Buffalo Heads. They should have won in both '77 and '78 as you point out, but from my vantage point John McNamara was the worst manager I've ever seen, Mr. Do Nothing. When Boggs was batting 3rd and he was out of the lineup for a day, the idiot would bat Ed Romero third in the order because he was too lazy to adjust his lineup appropriately, and I'll never forgive that blockhead for butchering the 1986 World Series.
I guess from where you sit the Sox usually have had brain dead managers. Fans watching longer than I have (1980) bemoan Johnson taking out Willoughby and I can't figure out why Drago wasn't an option considering he was the best reliever they had regardless of LH or RH batters or the 3 innings in Game 6, and ones from further back can't figure out what or if Joe McCarthy had been thinking (or drinking), and most of these guys on the board shudder at the mention of Grady Little who destroyed the Sox in 03.
