There's only one team in the majors that hasn't lost four games in a row yet. Let's hope that doesn't end today.

Seven errors in the last three days, plus a number of other bad defensive plays (Nunez's triple, Mibblebrooks misplaying a ball the day before). Don't put it all on the pitchers. I blame MibblebrooksSorry, I had to. Usually I'm on the receiving end of these things.

Are the Sox one man shot from having a usable roster? Just wondering if having Bradley there to spell the outfielders and allowing Carp to play first more often instead of an outfield position would make a difference. No doubt, Shane is banged up and perhaps Ells could use a day off once in a while. Bradley could be an adequate replacement, at least with the glove, allowing them to use Carp at first. The options now are limited. Of course assumimg that Bradley will not be as bad with the at as he was at the start of the year. Doin't know whose spot he would repace either. Just wondering

Just wondering Not a bad point. He'd help with the glove by giving Ells a day off for sure, but have noticed he hasn't looked real "tight" with his swing of late. Maybe it's the elbow issue still affecting him from a little over a week ago? He was DH'ing even for a bit. K rate has even been up, so not really sure, could be up against the PA wall and tired at this point of the season.

Napoli has plantaar faciitis in his left foot, a very painful injury to the ligament that attaches to the achilles tendon, and the same problem that Ortiz had for a long time, also Albert Pujois this year and many others, including yours truly, right now, as well. I can testify that it is a bitch to deal with, and the only thing that ever has hurt me more was a kidney stone attack.
So that may explain why his hitting has been below his average. This also is something that cannot be healed (pun intended) overnight. It can take nine months to a year. Mine started back in mid-winter. Of course, Napoli will get enormously better care than most of us, but there's not a whole lot that can be done to speed up the recovery. Most non-narcotic pain killers have little effect. I suspect he might get some anti-inflammatory meds.

Konerko oes have a .990 OPS vs LHP if we had to platoon someone with Carp.

Middlebrooks apparently acquired Iggy's BABIP juju.

So the gameday thread has gone mysteriously silent. The McCarver factor?

Kuroda gave up more than three runs for the first time since June. Sox tagged him for five in 5.2 IP. At least this offense is still getting it done vs righties.

Was that pitch that walked Nunez practice for the next time A-Rod comes up?

Tazawa velocity up a few ticks from what he has been recently.

Tazawa throws near A-Rod's head, the crowd goes wild!

Tazawa throws near A-Rod's head, the crowd goes wild! That made me laugh. haha No sympathy for that POS but it has to be hard to come to the park everyday being him. haha

"Near" is relative, I guess. It was neck high, but missed him by a foot and a half.
Nava and Middlebrooks continue to hit well, which bodes well. This offense, with its relative lack of power, succeeds by stringing hits together, and weak links make it that much more difficult.

I like his defense a lot and hes got power and looks like hes got more of a plan at the plate so far.

By the way, does Farrell really trust the other guys in the bullpen so little that he needs Tazawa and Uehara to finish a game with a 5-run lead?

What do you like so much about WMB's defense? Seems mediocre to average to me.

I think over his career the consensus has been that he is solid avg on defense with the potential for plus and I see that. Big arm too which makes up for some misplays. Hes got to get more consistent I agree but the tools are there in my opinion.

He's got a good arm, but his range has been mediocre-to-bad (especially going to his right) and he doesn't have particularly good hands or reflexes. He has many of the tools to be a plus defender (arm and athleticism), but I don't think he has really progressed the way we had all hoped.

This is the first Fox broadcast I have watched since the last time the Sox were on, and I almost forgot how bad these announcers are. My mind feels a little numb right now. Two questions repeatedly have come to mind during the game: "What did he just say" and "Did he really say that?"
Today's Sox lineup is the best of the current possible combinations.

Crazy. But, I thought it was a big win today. Is Lackey our ace? Sure looks like it. Great to see Carp in there against a RHP. Not sure why we haven't been doing that lately. 6 lefties, Victorina batting wherever, Pedey can hit most anyone(Even though he's slumping) and WMB.

"Did he really say that" -------------------------- According to McCarver, Tzawa and Koji were "interchangeable." Except that one has been a standout closer after the team's first two (plus Miller) are out for season. Uehara has been tremendous.
If I never hear an Albert(s) again it would be fine with me. They aren't that bad but I'm just sick of the whole crew. Enough.
As far as Napoli's foot problems go I'm not buying it. I'm sure it does hurt. Is that the reason he's not making contact and SO so often? I doubt it.

Two questions repeatedly have come to mind during the game: "What did he just say" and "Did he really say that?" Today's Sox lineup is the best of the current possible combinations. I was trying to avoid a string of super dumb McCarver quotes in the thread because at this point it's a little played out. You can make fun of his bad jokes or his stories that don't go anywhere, and we all know how tiresome that stuff can get, but I don't think that's the heart of the problem with McCarver. The real issue is that he's completely disconnected with the game today, and his mindset is totally out of step with that of a the modern baseball fan. He was talking how Ichiro take such good care of himself and he's going to play for so many more years and all this stuff... and Ichiro hasn't been good in three years. They were showing Alfonso Soriano highlights from the 2001 World Series and talking about him like he's still that guy. He thinks about these players in terms of their careers. Which is probably more how people looked at players back in the day, but is just woefully out of step with how the modern fan thinks about players and the game. Or, I dunno, maybe it just is all the bad jokes and pointless anecdotes. In any case, it does a massive disservice to the game to have this guy calling the World Series and other high-profile baseballing events.
