Seriously, Jeter looked like the old wanna-be athlete at the company softball game on that one.

They should have pinch-hit for Drew, but I understand deferring to the veteran. They should pinch-hit for Lavarnway, but because Saltalamacchia's injured and they want to give Ross a day off, I don't think they're going to. This.

I actually don't mind Drew batting there. Yes, he is terrible against lefties but let the Yanks use their lefty early in the game, and Drew is a good defender... Hindsight is 20-20.
My main critique in the White Sox series thread was that I don't like starting Drew against a lefty starter... against a righty he is the better option IMO. Drew had a homer yesterday (against a righty) and also in the White Sox series (against a righty).
Hope that clears my thoughts up for some people.

Captain caveman robs the captain! Sweet Napoli's defense has been a pleasant surprise. For a plodding ex-catcher with a degenerative hip injury, he's shown decent range and soft hands.

Ells was just cut off at the pass.
I'd like to sincerely apologize for that last offensive comment.

The yankees schedule outside of facing us 7 times isn't very difficult, it might be on us to keep them out of the wild card. Lets get it done.

I'm not saying that getting Rodriguez and Jeter back wasn't net beneficial, considering how bad their replacements were (consider Eduardo Nunez's -1.4 fWAR). But both of those guys give back a lot of runs on defense. A-Rod should be DHing and Jeter should be, I dunno, collecting tickets or showing people to their seats or something.

Daniel Nava is the second-best hitting left fielder in baseball, behind only Mike Trout.

Ok, they can get Peavy out of this game anytime now...

Daniel Nava is the second-best hitting left fielder in baseball, behind only Mike Trout. Hopefully he can cash the season to a 8-10M contract next season. He is one of the guys I dont mind getting overpaid by the Sox. He is still arbitration eligible right? Edit: Cots says he got 1.066M in 2012 and gets 505,500 this year. Did his salary go down from 2012? He is not Arb eligible until 2015 season.

I was going to post about leaving Peavy in until he gave up a walk or a hit, but then I knew Farrell would leave him in a batter too long. I do hope he manages this game to win and doesn't manage the bullpen for a 4 game set. It's September. You can call up arms at will.

Why is Thornton still in there? Where is Breslow!?
If they lose this game it's a disaster.

Peavy's at 105 pitches and he has a well rested bullpen yet he decides to keep him in there and give the Yankees some life.
It's stuff like this that really gets on my nerves.

Hey, remember when we thought Matt Thornton was a good enough reliever to give up Brandon Jacobs for? Good times.
