Wow Dempster has been so lucky tonight. 5 walks, 4 hits and a shit ton of LOBs in 5 innings and only 1 run.
To be fair, he was getting squeezed there that last inning. Pretty frustrating when they were calling some questionable strikes on Napoli just an inning before.

Man, the two Rays fans out there must be having a pretty crappy time. Their collapse this year is as bad as September 2011. They were percentage points ahead in the division on August 25th and have gone 4-12 since while the Red Sox have gone 12-3.

It's fringy players going there and resurrecting careers while they play at Tampa, then becoming flops again when they leave. Think about it. Kotchman goes there a year, all of a sudden has this marvelous comeback year, then is finished again when leaves. Molina, Jason Bartlet, Loney after this year.. This team magnifies hitters like the Cardinals do pitchers.

Cobb just has a completely different strike zone than Dempster did.... unbelievable.
Phenomenal at bat there by Ross drawing a walk considering both strikes called there were way out of the strike zone and he held firm.

Apparently this isn't a good time to pinch hit, according to Farrell.

At least Britton is nice and warmed up, though.

Can I say that the middle relief on this team makes me nervous. I only trust Koji and Breslow. Tazawa rarely has clean innings any more. Lately he's been getting in trouble and not even lasting the full inning.
And Workman has been up and down. I wonder what the White Sox wanted for Matt Lindstrom in a deal.
As far as I can see this seems to be the one real achilles heel on the team - solid middle relief.

If there is anything on this team that gives you pause is that bullpen besides Uehara of course.

Here's a true pinch hit situation.

Take a sit David Ross. That looked bad.

Take a sit David Ross. That looked bad. Bradley's was worse though.

Why can't they have 6 Ueharas in the bullpen? is that too much to ask?

Obligatory "Uehara is obscene" post.

It's been a long time since I've seen ANY batter miss ANY pitch by as much as Zobrist missed on that second strike. Koji is the man.

Yes, let's bunt Pedroia to 2nd so the Rays can walk Ortiz.

Victorino looked hurt there or he was holding in a fart.

What a shock. An intentional walk to Papi. I really don't understand why they do dumb things like that. Victorino has been great at the plate lately. No need to bunt.
I do hope that the Sox rest Victorino once they clinch the division. They need him healthy for the ALDS.

I wouldn't mind former Fausto Carmona against Napoli.

If Victorino is truly hurt, that would explain the bunt.

If Victorino is THAT badly hurt, he shouldn't be playing. The division is very close to clinched.
