The mood was more glum than celebratory at the Trop. Then again, I guess that's what happens when Boston is the home team. Schilling forever ruined the Sox fans having the louder fan reactions when he referred to those "cowbells" years ago. Anyone who has ever attended a game at the Trop ever since has been severely annoyed by the 1-200 Rays fans, who DO show up as hard core fans and clang those irritating things whenever opposing team fans get to loud for them and Sox fans are noisier and the few Sox/NYY games I now attend, numerous than NYY fans. Before Schill referred to those things? Opposing teams, like Boston and the Yanks easily "out voiced" the Rays fans and it was quite funny, sometimes there would be sneers from Rays fans sitting nearby, but that's how it goes you know. Especially when Wake was at that time dominating the Rays every time out.

Early Impression - not end results: Bradley's approach does not appear to have altered. He still appears to be looking middle-out, rib high to mid thigh. He still has a big deficit in his contact ability inner third, esp lower inside quadrant. Seems to recognize breaking stuff a little better as he's not bailing on it, but he's not stiking it hard, either, or missing badly. I agree, Bradley is not ready. Nate McClouth is looking better option right now than Bradley.

If there is such a thing as a quality loss, tonight was it. I think Farrell handled it very well. He rested the bullpen. They are now set up with Koji, Breslow, and Tazawa all rested. Victorino got a badly needed day off. He tested out Britton and De La Rosa, and obviously De La Rosa didn't work out, but it was still a good test to run - see if he can handle a 3-3 tie in the 8th. And mostly, it screwed over the Yankees and prevents them from tying Tampa for a night. This is the most relaxed after a loss I've been all season. Farrell played this one correctly. 100% agree

Especially when Wake was at that time dominating the Rays every time out. There were maybe five to six Rays fans where I was seated, thankfully none with cowbells. They would start their "Red Sox Suck" or "Boston Sucks" chants, and they would immediately get booed into submission. These same assholes were cheering when the Rays pitchers went inside and nearly plunked our batters. But after the win? Very quiet - relative to other MLB stadiums I've been to (Braves, even the Diamondbacks). Even going out, there were no Rays chants or other celebrations ... actually heard more support for the Red Sox than the Rays. One highlight, for me, was one of the Rays fans attempting to start a wave. He tried it 2-3 times, and it failed each time. After the third time, he says, "Too many Red Sox fans here." A Red Sox fan turned around, "Maybe your team should get some fans." Absolutely priceless reaction. Guy was quiet for the rest of the game.

The Trop is an awful place to watch a game for me. But fans are likely the same everywhere and Tampa fans have angst like we do for the Stanks. Their poor facility and the sad fact that the team has never been able to develop a following probably adds. On top of that local sports commentator Steve Duemig is constantly demeaning to Red Sox fans on WDAE The Sports Animal...even suggesting that they not be allowed to wear Red Sox gear or cheer on the Sox in the Trop. He implores the fans to use the cowbells too. A drumbeat thrust is that if you formerly lived in N.E. and were a Sox fan, moving to Florida requires you to give up your allegiance and become a Rays fan. Of course the whiny Rays announcers contribute as well.
