Farrell keeps throwing Salty out there also, amazing. If anyone needs a week off, it's him and pedroia. Lavarnway hasn't played in 3-4 days and pedey's been out there forever. Was nice to see Salty throw out 2 the game Bucholz started, then he had Bucholz who holds runners close. Buch and Morales the only 2 that do that. Salty has caught 4 games in 12 days heading into tonight. Keeps throwing him out there??

I prefer Eck, and I also prefer the version of David Ortiz that isn't in some kind of slump...

If I may respond to Hatfield's tweet, since I do not have Twitter.......you're lucky Tim Salmon is retired. A.J. Pollock has a WAR of 2.5

I like Derek Lowe as a commentator. I agree. I really like what Lowe brings to the booth. He's got some legitimate insight into both pitchers and hitters and is an affable and likeable personality. He has a future in announcing if he chooses to pursue it.

Peavy missing all his spots. He doesn't seem like a guy who mails it in so I'll say he's just not sharp.

Salty was out there for every game, unless a toughie was on the mound and only then would *sometimes* Farrell rest him. Boston is going to need a fully capable player in Salty, who in all likelihood will play in every PO game. He should be playing in only half (at most) of the remaining games or less he's been in so many, post Ross returning.

Last night was "saved by ESPN" and could watch that broadcast, but tonight, due to MLB broadcast restrictions? Am stuck with lousy DeWayne Staats and Brian Anderson. At least they are not crying tonight and seem resigned to the fact Tampa has blown all hope of winning the DC.

I'll trust Farrell that he doesn't run him into the ground. He was on pace to play 125-130 games. Hardly a back-breaking season. Tek always did that. Different story if he's on pace to catch 150. But, he wasn't.

Sox showing the Rays what they think of them as a threat by going Britton-RDLR-Thornton in the late innings of a tie game ... "yeah, guys, really cool that you're into this, fighting for your lives and all. We're just using you to experiment with some guys, get some work in."

I really dislike Rodney.
1) I fear for the health of the batters.
2) I hate his celebrations.

Ugh. Shame to mail that one in there. RDLR in a tie game? I know the pen was tired but that was a very winnable game there.

Whatever almost anyone would have been happy with 1 out of 3 in fact they won 2 out of 3. If they won today it would have been gravy. You can't win them all.
Now lets beat up on the Yankees some more.

But, he wasn't. Last year was a career high for Salty with GP and remember how he tailed of toward the end at the plate? We don't want a Salty who K's 50k of the time in the PO,tho you are 100% correct Farrell should know best. He's only like 10G short of last seasons career high and Tek was one of those throwback catchers one rarely sees anymore. Another game note from tonight.. Regarding Pedey (and other modern players who dive toward the plate while the pitch is approaching) 30 years ago, especially vs a guy like Rodney who throws 95+? He would get the very next pitch at, or behind his head, then cease and desist that nonsense. Pedey and Jeter have taken "plate diving" way farther than it should be allowed and end up over the Kzone after it is finished. Yes.. Pedey is one of my favorites, but that should be addressed since pitchers are not allowed to themselves anymore.. Bruce Kison, JR Richard and Nolan Ryan would have put those types flat on their backs.

I agree with this. I know Farrell managing for the series this weekend but a win is a win, and you beat the Rays tonight you can knock them out of the WC.
Not complaining - 2-3 down at that hole is great - but Ive never understood managing for the next game in a tie game/winnable game situation. If you're at the wrong end of a blowout, sure. But brining in RDLR was pretty much a signal that this game disn't have as much meaning to him as the last two.
Oh well, you CAN knock the MFYs out of the playoffs this week end, but I am pulling for them/Balt/Cleve to somehow displace Texas & Tamp.

Early Impression - not end results: Bradley's approach does not appear to have altered. He still appears to be looking middle-out, rib high to mid thigh.
He still has a big deficit in his contact ability inner third, esp lower inside quadrant. Seems to recognize breaking stuff a little better as he's not bailing on it, but he's not stiking it hard, either, or missing badly.

Especially because 9 of our remaining games are against pretty good teams. I guess we're lucky the Rays still have 4 vs Texas, 3 vs MFYs and 3 vs Balt too...

If there is such a thing as a quality loss, tonight was it. I think Farrell handled it very well. He rested the bullpen. They are now set up with Koji, Breslow, and Tazawa all rested. Victorino got a badly needed day off.
He tested out Britton and De La Rosa, and obviously De La Rosa didn't work out, but it was still a good test to run - see if he can handle a 3-3 tie in the 8th.
And mostly, it screwed over the Yankees and prevents them from tying Tampa for a night.
This is the most relaxed after a loss I've been all season. Farrell played this one correctly.

Just a bit. Moreso that I'd also like to see Cleveland overtake the Rays (they would've tied them if we won) and knock the Rays out of the post season.
I guess a better way to look at it may be that the Rays just got lucky there with that hit. A healthy Victorino would've had that maybe... but Victorino is beat up and a bit injured.
Farrell didn't really have too many great options considering he had to really use our bullpen to get the last two wins. Breslow, Taz, Uehara, Workman, etc.
Something about 1 run losses just stings a bit... The last two to the Yanks and Orioles in particular.

The mood was more glum than celebratory at the Trop. Then again, I guess that's what happens when Boston is the home team.
