Okay, if we win just 6 of our last 15 games the Rays must go 17-1 to catch us.

Magic number is 8 with 15 games to play. That's just absurd. Dodgers at 6, Braves at 7. But the way both the Sox and Rays are playing, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Sox be team #1 to win a division
That was also an absolute bomb by Carp

Seriously. It's time to start paying attention to the Tigers and possible 1st round matchups.

Another great fact, if we win 6 games, they Yankees cannot catch us.

Tampa is blowing it so bad that the Yanks have a real shot at the playoffs. The worst thing that could happen to the Sox this season would be for them to lose to NY in the post-season, but taking a neutral point of view, I'd rather see Boston face NY than Tampa or Texas. I'd hate to see Moore and Price for three games and the thought of Darvish twice in five games and the Sox track record against Texas makes me uneasy. The Yanks are doing it on mirrors. They should be at .500.

Now I wonder when the Sox will clinch the division. I pick Saturday, Sept 21 vs Toronto.

That was just the 12th pinch-hit extra-inning GS since 1945. This was the first in the AL since 1952 (Budd Souchock of the Tigers). Amazingly, both pitchers named Roberto Hernandez have now given one up.
Pitch-by-pitch data only goes back to 1987 or 1988, but that was the only the second known first-pitch pinch-hit extra-inning grand slam. On May 4, 1995 Todd Hundley of the Mets broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the 10th by taking the Expos' Bryan Eversgerd deep with Carl Everett, Joe Ursulak, and Rico Brogna on base.
Hmm ... Brogna's only HR in a Red Sox uni was a walk-off GS on August 14, 2000, and although it wasn't a PH, it was his first PA of the game after he pinch-ran for Brian Daubach. I remember because I was at the game!

If I may respond to Hatfield's tweet, since I do not have Twitter.......you're lucky Tim Salmon is retired.

Seriously. It's time to start paying attention to the Tigers and possible 1st round matchups. The division is over. Right now we're 4 up on Oakland and 4 1/2 up on Detroit for the top seed. We have a 9 game home-stand looming. Maybe, one of those teams gets hot. Detroit has Miggy nursing an injury and a lot of their pitchers having pitched a lot of innings. I don't think they go to the wire to get the top seed. Maybe Oakland will in order to avoid Detroit. Neither play a playoff team the last two weeks after this weekend. Oak - 3 at Texas, 3 VS LAA, 4 vs Minny, 3 at LAA and 3 at Sea. Det - 3 vs KC, 4 vs Sea, 3 vs Chi, 3 at Minny and 3 at Miami Sox Play 3 vs NYY, 3 vs Balt, 3 vs Toronto, 2 at Colorado and 3 at Balt. One of the bad things about being the top seed is how many teams you have to prepare for; Texas, TB, NYY, Baltimore, KC and Cleveland. If Detroit and Oakland don't make up any ground on the Sox going into the last weekend. Doesn't make any sense to make a big push. Can start preparing for each other. The Sox won't know who their opponent is until the wild-card game is over. I'd rather play the wild-card team because it doesn't appear none are as good as Oakland or Detroit. But, the scouting staff will be busy.

They can patch it together for a while with JBJ, Nava, Gomes, Carp, Berry, plus Hassan when Pawtucket finishes up. ESPN showed Vic trying to stretch that hammy out in the 10th - he's clearly beat up.

Uehara needs some rest tonight and over the next two weeks in general. Hope the Sox tee off on Hellboy and Peavy is stingy

Yup. They already clinched the division with these last two wins, so he and Uehara should be on the way to Boston already (and Victorino should just get the weekend off).

From Keith Law's chat today:
Hoss (Austin): Is William Middlebrooks recent performance a result of photons taking shortcuts in vertical temperature gradients or an improved approach?
Klaw: Improved approach, simplified mechanics. Quieter lower half now.

Carp can't play. He might prove he needs to start every day, which would cause all kinds of problems.

Farrell keeps throwing Salty out there also, amazing. If anyone needs a week off, it's him and pedroia. Lavarnway hasn't played in 3-4 days and pedey's been out there forever.
Was nice to see Salty throw out 2 the game Bucholz started, then he had Bucholz who holds runners close. Buch and Morales the only 2 that do that.

Not our game. But, Yanks/O's is in a rain delay in Baltimore. I hope they don't start until 11pm. I remember in 2011, we played in NY on a getaway night June 9th. Started about 10pm and few to Toronto after the game. Yanks come to town tomorrow night. Or, hope they arrive real late in the morning 5-6 am would be cool. Maybe, a 10am fire drill at their hotel would be cool
