Drew is just an automatic out against lefties at this point.

Pinch run for Papi to get him out of the game, but let Drew hit then? WTF???

Seriously Farrell?
Screw off. Such a joke.
Waste Ortiz. Waste Gomez. Waste Berry. And don't pinch hit for Drew who is literally below AA level vs. Lefties.
Pathetic.

Taking Papi out of the game. Berry steals 2B. Runner on 2nd and no one out. Isn't this a time where small-ball is exercised, no matter where in the lineup you are? Maybe bunting?

I really don't understand. Go all-in on the inning by pinch-running for Ortiz and pinch-hitting Gomes for Nava. Then decide to just take it easy and let Drew hit. Just pure, unadulterated idiocy.

You pinch run for ortiz in a Tie game You HAVE to sell out on every other match-up. Letting Drew hit after Salty and napoli shit the bed is just bad managing. Now you have no Ortiz if you go to extras. Dumb.

Not liking the strategy here. Waste Breslow for 1/3 of an inning, pinch-run for Papi when there's a good chance his spot in the lineup comes up (nothing against Carp, but really?!? And I would have liked to have seen McGee gone from the game. Wright showed nothing last time. Would gladly take the Bogaerts/Wright matchup. Now the Sox will most likely get Rodney in the 9th either way. Not sure how the Sox will navigate thru the 8th. Why do I think we'll see Morales this inning?

Absolutely no reason to have X on this roster if you're not going to use him there. Just terrible.
ADD: And I would have bunted Napoli there to get the winning run to 3rd with 1 out. You're playing for the run...

What makes this worse is that McGee probably doesn't know Xander at all, and was throwing just fastballs. And we know Xander can hit any fastball.

Absolute joke. Burn Papi for the rest of the game, and refuse to maximize your chances to score a run. Straight refusal. I mean, what else does leaving the inning up to two .600 OPS vs. lefties guys indicate?

This wasn't a good time to take Ortiz out of the lineup. It seems to come back to bite us in the behind every time.
And Berry does not inspire a lot of confidence as a SB guy when you really need one. At least he ran today though as compared to other opportunities. I would rather have had JBJ.
That sequence exposed some major weaknesses. No one seemed to have gamed out that sequence. Now this game is absolutely up in the air and if anything in favor of the Rays.

That's an excellent point. I despise bunting as much as anyone, but that seemed like a good time to do it. Also, Morales sucks.

I think the biggest problem was the original lineup. Can't have Nava, Salty, Drew in a row. Middlebrooks has to go between them.

That was predictable. I figured our middle relief would cost the Sox a game, along with some headscratching managerial moves.

Bobby Cox was a brilliant long-haul regular season manager, and a terrible tactician. I'm beginning to worry that Farrell is the same.
Well, maybe not beginning.

What makes this worse is that McGee probably doesn't know Xander at all, and was throwing just fastballs. And we know Xander can hit any fastball. Maddon would have brought in Wright, I think. In other news, Franklin Morales remains a garbage reliever. But he does have that balk-move to 1B, which comes in handy.

Pete Abraham ?@peteabe 5m In a 3-3 game, not sure I want a rookie making his postseason debut at SS on crappy soft turf.
Pete Abraham ?@peteabe 1m Welcome to the #RedSox season, playoff pink hats.
Oh. Alright, settle down boys.
