Wow what a terrible time to have one of your worst outings of the year... Breslow was just awful.

Breslow has been like this all postseason. Getting behind, unable to command his fastball, living on the edge. That 3-2 pitch missed his location bu eighteen inhes. This is on him.
And don't get me started on Gomes' alleged energy and intangibles. Noodle-arm Ellsbury could have gotten that out at home. If he starts another game in this series, I take back every nice thing I've ever said about Farrell.

Salty sucks. Drops the ball on the double steal so no chance there then doesn't come off the plate to get that throw.

Breslow just killed the Sox this game !!! The defense was awful. I thought it was a shallow fly in LF where Gomes had a shot to throw out the runner. At worst, it's a sac fly and a tie game. Instead the throw is off-line, Salty doesn't move to get the throw, and then Breslow throws away a run, and then gives them an insurance run. Oh yeah, he walked the immortal Daniel Descalso. If you can't get that guy you won't win the game. We better hope the Cards' pen is worse than the Tigers' pen. Damn it. They could have won this game and gone into St. Louis up 2-0. I don't like how the Sox are lined up in St. Louis. Don't want to go there tied at 1-1.

Can't stress how much of a disaster this loss is.

Couldn't see it as we are in the midst of a power putage. Radios said that the Gomes throw was off a little but Salty should gave caught it.

Gomes is a turd attached to a beard. Farrell is even worse for starting him. Salty/the team in general sleeping on that double steal is inexcusable.
Uehara needs to be brought in for the high leverage situation there, too.
But this one is far from over.

Couldn't see it as we are in the midst of a power putage. Radios said that the Gomes throw was off a little but Salty should gave caught it. It was unlucky. It was a sort of poor throw by Gomes, and a sort of poor defense by Salty. Not anything too awful about either of these plays, don't believe the boards. Breslow throwing to third, now that was moronic. Still, this one isn't over guys.

I'll never understand why we were walking guys at the bottom of their freaking order with a 1 run lead.

Pathetic by Farrell & Breslow. that is not remotly JF fault.... It's only a little his fault. Mostly for starting an inferior defender in LF.

Just brutal. This all gets magnified if Buchholz turns out to be fried.

that is not remotly JF fault.... It's only a little his fault. Mostly for starting an inferior defender in LF. How many times do you see a manager flat-out bench a decisively superior offensive and defensive player for a guy who has better, um, "intangibles" and base running? Not to mention, if that's Nava in left, his left-handedness puts him in much better position to make a good throw to the plate. That may be the best one yet It's very true, is it not? Not Gomes fault he doesn't throw lefty, but I'm just pointing out that if we started our best left fielder, we would have had a better chance at making that play. FWIW, the bulk of the blame there still has to go to Salty and Breslow.

I'll never understand why we were walking guys at the bottom of their freaking order with a 1 run lead. Because Breslow is a far inferior reliever than his ERA would have you believe. He's always walked more hitters than he can sustain with his below-average K rates. And instead of attacking a terrible hitter, he tried to be too fine and walked him.

Uehara needs to be brought in for the high leverage situation there, too. But this one is far from over. How many outs do you expect Uehara to get? 5 is his max. The Sox would have needed 8 outs from him. Farrell's good luck charm has killed them. He hasn't really hit, and his defense is shaky. I don't get it. Gomes is a guy I like to see come off the bench, not be a regular everyday player. Nava should have been starting against the righties. That is Farrell's fault. None of the other stuff really is.

Just brutal. This all gets magnified if Buchholz turns out to be fried. I don't think this is as big of an issue as people are making it out to be. Its not like Buchholz was lighting the world on fire in his last few starts, and the Cardinals are simply awful versus LHP. Toss Doubront out there with extra rest and something to prove and I see things looking up.

Can't stress how much of a disaster this loss is. They're down two runs, not ten. A loss here is very bad. We lose the DH in StL, Peavy couldn't get past 2 innings last time out and Buchholz has a dead arm.
