How is there still no movement in the Sox pen?
We've been pretty lucky. 0 ER from Buch. Funny bounce or not, that's very weak on Ell's part.

If we can't score some runs of Lance freaking Lynn then we don't even deserve to be playing the WS.

So you want dumpster? If Jacobi makes that play the game remains tied at 0. They already used the bullpen yesterday. They need to ride Buch as much as they can.

Calm down, folks.
This series is beginning to have the feel that the Sox are just wearing down. I don't know if it was the strain of the incredibly tense series with the Tigers or just the overall wear and tear of the season. But the consistently crisp play is not there, the business end of the pen, which has labored meritoriously all year, is starting to show cracks, Buchholz is not right due to injury, much of the lineup looks bogged down, etc. It may just be that this team has carried on at the top of its game for as long as it can, and they are coming down off the mountain a bit. Unfortunately, it doesn't take much of a coming off the mountain and for only a short time against a worthy opponent in a short series.
At this point the Cardinals just look fresher than we do.

Sadly there is an element of the "bubble finally bursting" here, this roster as currently comprised for the most part was looked at as one that would finish at the bottom of the AL East. They have relied on a lot of "magic" throughout the year, sometimes that magic runs out and they play closer to what career norms would indicate. This is not over but I could walk away with a loss in this series thinking this season has been a success. We made it to the WS and didn’t leverage any future in doing so.

What's funny to me is how everybody was expecting the Sox to beat up Kelly and Lynn. If those guys were pitching at Fenway I could definitely see that, but they weren't. I expected them to be effective at home just like I thought Fister would be effective at home for Detroit.
They're simply not hitting a damn thing and this team cannot afford mistakes. That bobble probably cost the Sox a run, so there's more shoddy defense, terrible offense, and it's just a matter of time before Clay gets shelled. He's got absolutely nothing and is fortunate the Cardinals haven't battered him.
He gets a lot of flack for being gutless, but I honestly think it was courageous of him to go out there with absolutely nothing. I feel bad for him - he must feel like he's naked on the mound - with no killer curve, no fastball, and no way to distinguish a changeup. But he took the ball. I hope that's remembered. He shouldn't be on the roster.

This is not over but I could walk away with a loss in this series thinking this season has been a success. We made it to the WS and didn’t leverage any future in doing so. That's where I'm at. I'm ticked that the Sox blew this series. They could have actually have won the first three games. The Cards lineup hasn't impressed me as much as I thought they would, but their pitching has been fantastic, and I strongly believe we'll see the real Adam Wainright tomorrow. It's too bad the Sox had so many dead spots in the order. They hit so well those first two games against Tampa and after that they needed a well-timed grandslam, a bunch of Victorino HBP, a bunch of wild pitches and a bunch of errors by the other teams to generate offense. The Sox had trouble stringing together hits and scoring runs. It's too bad. I think the Cardinals are the better team, but the Sox could have taken them those first three games.

Crazy thought just to throw out there; ultimately we need one of the three in Stl. Get out of the NL Park and back to Fenway with our full lineup. I would almost treat this as a throw away game. Set everything up to try to win tomorrow with the pen etc. I have no faith in Clay. I would feel fine with this strategey if thE Sox had easily taken both games in Fenway and had a game 7 starter who was as lock down as Price or Verlander looked iin that spot. But really, if one is managing that way 1) he should've put all the eggs in that basket in game 3 and everything else is gravy. 2) He should also be fired on the spot. I honestly believe this game is vital and should be managed almost like a game 7. The bounces have been mostly going the Cards' way, and bad decisions have negated any opportunity created.
