Owens and Rubby De La Rosa overshadowed by Trey Ball's debut.

Seeing as there's a 12 hour time difference and all of the games except Salem are TV games, tonight might kill me.
Minor league TV page says PawSox at 6:35, Greenville at 7:05
Look for Mookie to pull out of his mini-'slump'. In the last two games he has 8 ground outs. That's not typical.
ADD: A PawSox tweet confirms the 1:35 time

Interested in how Owens fairs vs the Trenton lineup who have been hitting the ball very well of late.

Does anyone know what is Owens problem?
His era is a full run higher than today's other starters.
Definitely a down period.

This is from three weeks ago, but this Speier podcast is definitely worth a listen: audio.weei.com/a/89850062/minor-details-ep-78-tim-hyers-on-red-sox-hitting-prospects-keith-law-on-al-east-farm-systems.htmHe talks with hitting coordinator Tim Hyers about pretty much every interesting hitting prospect in the system. In particular, Hyers brought up Nick Longhi (who has shortened his swing and flashes plus raw power) and Deven Marrero (whose bat has a lot more potential than his statistical line might indicate) as two under-the-radar guys who surprised him the most this spring. There were also some interesting tidbits about Swihart (Hyers thinks he'll hit for power, it's just a matter of time), Javier Guerra (who Hyers mentioned as an an advanced hitter with a good approach at the plate), Vazquez (sneaky pull power on inside pitches). There's also some stuff on guys like Betts, Margot, and Devers, though nothing particularly new or surprising.

Interesting about Marrero. Also believe he has the ability to be a better hitter than his stats suggest.

No, it was me. I also jinxed the Dogs. I recorded the first inning stream, they're obviously recorder shy. I'm thinning it out and will upload it to YouTube. LOL, right now it's a 16GB file.

This was an important outing for Owens. Got rung up for runs early, but hung tough to still get 5IP to spare the pen to some degree (ie, versus only getting 2-3 IP).

Holt going back-to-back games with an E at SS doesn't help.

Can't wait to see/hear/read reports on Ball today. Results aside, I hope he can show some command and poise, obviously we can't take much of anything from just one start, but after a lot of anxious premature doubt over him and where he was picked, it sure would be nice to see him come out firing.
Best of luck Trey, all doubt aside, this entire board is rooting for you today.

Ruby also came back after a bad inning to give 2 more IP. At the beginning of 2012, Owens typical outing was 3 quick innings of mostly SO, then he would get hit in the 4th. Not a great or even good stat line, but it was clear that there was stuff that might be developed into something. So I think we should just look to see if there is potential, regardless of the stat line.

Holt going back-to-back games with an E at SS doesn't help. In that same inning there should have been a double play but Lavarnway's foot came off the bag when he reached further than he needed to. The other factor was that RDLR clustered the hits, errors, walks, misplays. Sequencing thing. Portlnd is impressive up and down. They're within 1 at 6-5. Ramos with a particularly impressive 10 pitch AB where he got a broken bat single to left. Shaw is raking right now. LOL, I'm streaming three games right now and uploading a video to YouTube (which is going very slow). Lester looked good. Mookie just made an amazing leaping grab of a liner then doubled off the runner on first. Heiker might have just pulled a hammy oversliding 2B. Mookie struckout to end the game on a nasty slider/fastball combo. His first strikeout in 6 games. I'll try to record Ball's first inning

Here's the SeaDogs first inning, bad as it was. I don't know how long it will be there.:

It's immediately obvious that there's one thing Trey Ball is good at: getting run support.

Margot did not play that very well. That was strange. Lot's of miscues on both sides. Low A ball, whodathunkit. I recorded the first inning and a half but it's long, will take a while to upload to YouTube. (removed)
