McGrath in his second start really showing up. 4k's in 5ip so far with his only blemish a HR.
Ranaudo walking a fine line. 5K but 2BB and HR in 3ip so far. 64-39 pitches-strikes
57-40 pitches-strikes from McGrath is what i like to see! Now through 6 innings, insanely efficient. One HBP.
Greenville offense t-ing off on the Tourists' pitchers to the tune of 6bb's and 9 hits.
Rijo pulled, DH Lin goes to SS, Asueje moves to 2B, and McGrath K's in his first plate appearance of the season.

Great line by McGrath. He's a pretty interesting prospect with some flashes of dominance thus far in his brief milb career. I'd be interested to hear how he gets it done as the scouting reports indicate a fastball that doesn't break 90mph.

I'd be interested to see if that scouting report should be updated. He's young and I seem to remember the expectation that he'd add a few ticks to his FB as he developed. Maybe I just have a bad memory though

Very strange box for Greenville.
Ranaudo just removed from game, nice start but too many pitches. 5.2 IP, 4H 4BB 7K 1HR 2-4 GO/FO 106 pitches Announcer said 3rd most pitches in Ranaudo's career left down 1-0

Maybe I just have a bad memory though No, you're remembering correctly and I'd also be curious to see if the FB has ticked up. I do remember though, that even with his stretch of dominance in the GCL and decent success at Lowell last year, he was still in the mid to upper 80's with the fastball. Not sure about this year though.

Ely added to PawSox roster, Brentz placed on DL. Eh... they shouldn't need 8 relievers in Pawtucket. Makes me wonder whether some sort of MLB move is coming (Mujica to DL?)

I wish we'd keep Holt of those two. Haven't been impressed with Herrera.

On the lookout for Holt tweets. It almost looked like he was going to be up for the season and now this.

Nick Cafardo ?@nickcafardo 9m This is our understanding: Drew will go on the active roster Wednesday but will go play in the minors for 7-10 days.

There's an open spot on the 40-man roster, so noone has to be DFAed.

Then who's getting cut from the 40 man ? Villarreal ? Or Lavarnway or Butler. There is only 39 on the 40 man with Wright on the 60 day list so Drew can go right on and Villarreal isn't on it anyway. Both Redsox.com and here both confirm the 39.

The 40-man is at 39.
As for the 8 relievers thing, having four bench guys not as crucial there given rotating DH, three catchers on the roster, and the versatility of guys like McCoy, Henry, Snyder, and the like.
And Britton pitched yesterday, so I have no idea why you'd think that, amfox.

That's not what Cafardo meant or how it works. When Cafardo mentioned "active roster," he meant 40-man roster.
