92 pitches through 6. I might just take him out now and let him have the huge confidence boost from an incredible game.

Ruby's throwing a lot of pitches, if he could be more economical and keep the control he's an absolute stud.

Rubby just has the Rays overmatched. So you have to ask is his stuff that good--and their first look at him-- or does this Tampa lineup stink.
Nice decision by X to not barehand that chance so he's looking better at ss (Welcome Stephen).

This is a dream come true start for RDLR, 7K's no walks only three hits. It's early yet, but this is so encouraging. I know the Tampa offense is dogcrap, but still. I hope I saw Rubbies last start in the bucket. One thing I noticed was early in counts he sometimes lost intensity . That won't happen in Fenway. Just a minor thing. With solid d behind him while pitching ahead, the FBI and change looks like plenty to me.

8 K's, 8 Ground Outs, 2 Fly Outs. Nice. Continues to keep the ball on the ground. He will have all kinds of success keeping the ball on the ground especially in Fenway.

Wouldn't it be great to see Papi take a base due to defensive indifference in the 9th?

So does Rubby hit a Ray player to endear himself to his teamates if they're taking him out soon anyway?
I'd say no, but stranger things have happened. I'd hate to have him blemmish this start with even one HBP.
But the Rays might get nasty, a blowout where they can't hit a lick

Just as an aside. When people like beat writers make statements to pull eyeballs, it's incitement, not insight. The idea that the Sox have a system that can't deliver help to the ML team is pure horseshit. 'it's incitement, not insight.' Or the rankings of a bitter mindless overachieving fool. rantings

He's still sitting 96mph even after 104 pitches. He's started to mix in the slider more, which is smart give them something more to think about.

Hitting 97 in the 7th over 100 pitches? That's a Rubbyful thing.

RDLR just jumped ahead of every other AAA prospect this year for starts, probably including Workman with that gem. What a masterpiece.
If he could keep that control with the change, FB and throw 97mpy like he did when the pitch count is over 100? Think Andrew Cashner out there.

If they send Rubby down I imagine the fans may revolt after tonights performance. I can't see anyway he doesn't deserve at minimum another 2 or 3 starts. I even suspect I'd rather give him a spot over Workman right now. Of course with Doubront and Buchholz ailing he should be with the club for awhile.

His slider almost looks like a cutter sometimes. He seems to be changing speeds well Extremely effective if he keeps the ball down.

Well, they can always explain that they sent him down because he didn't hit any Rays hitters. Unintentionally of course. But seriously, I wonder if maybe part of his success tonight may have come from the Rays being a little, shall we say, antsy in the box, wondering if/when a big FB was going to "get away?"

Mookie had a great game, but don't sleep on Coyle he could be due for a promotion too. Sure. Maybe next year. He just needs to stay healthy, keep hitting, and cut down on his K's. He can do that just fine this year in Portland. Having a good year doesn't mean you are owed a promotion. There's no reason for Coyle not to spend the whole year in AA.

Rubby deserves a long look in the rotation. I don't care what he has done in the past, I don't think Buchholz even deserves a rotation spot when he comes off the DL, unless he has proven his stuff is back. Even if he does, I'd sooner kick Doubront out of the rotation over Rubby. At some point or another, the Red Sox need to start integrating their younger starters into the big leagues.

Honestly I don't see why anyone would want to bring a minor league prospect making his first start of the season into the bean ball wars. I want his attention on nothing but getting outs. I don't think we should be discrediting how great Rubby was tonight by downplaying the TB roster more than necessary.

Shitty to see JBJ hurt, but i'm relieved it is a ball to the face and not an arm injury like I initially thought it was...

Despite how badly the Rays are getting spanked, they could be getting whooped even worse. Longo, Rodriguez, Jennings, and Zobrist each made plays on balls that would have been scored hits if they got through.
