Go for it. Red Sox pick 26, 33 and 67 today.

There are concerns about his delivery and his medicals. If he falls to #26, I cannot envision Freeland not being the pick (I note he was my pick in my first mock draft, before he started gaining serious helium).

Callis and Mayo have their mocks out. Callis has Fedde and Reed, while Mayo has Kopech and Blandino.

I can't see the Sox drafting Fedde with their first pick. All previous injury draftees had not just underwent major surgery. Possibly with their 2nd pick, though.

It's pretty impossible to do any kind of accurate mock without knowing what every player's signing demands are. We get very little of that. All we can do is assume Boras clients want what they would have gotten if they weren't hurt.

It was fun following things much more closely last year because of the high pick but it's comforting to go back to my usual routine of not paying much attention until draft night and letting you guys tell me whether to hate the picks or love them.

Would people be ok with Derek Fisher?

Same here. It was easy trying to figure out who the Sox would get at 7 last year, even though just about no one wrote much about Ball or picked him in a mock. It's 1000 times harder at 26. I haven't even tried to keep up.

I think that instead of focusing in names we can deduce that the Red Sox general strategy will be High upside/more certainty with the 1st two picks. Let's see what happens. Let's do this.

As stacked as the minor leagues are (especially the AA level and above), I would love to see them go for two high risk picks. But I understand the philosophy of one high risk pick and one safe pick.

My default is nearly always hoping for a HS power arm, with the least desirable being any type of 4y college bat.

Update on Kyle Freeland:
@kileymcd Freeland medical described as "bad" by one scouting dir; could still go to 8/COL for deep discount. Some teams in 20s saying they'll pass.

Sox system is deep enough to take a risk, and if you look at recent history it looks like the Sox have actually had a LOT of success with drafting high schoolers in the first couple rounds. Could this be luck? or just better player development? You'd think a kid with all the tools but also the risk has a better chance in Bostons organization than others.

Would people be ok with Derek Fisher? At #33, I wouldn't love it or hate it. He is neither fish nor fowl. His bat may not play as a corner OF but he may not be able to play CF in the pros. He needs more development than a typical top-40 college pick. He would likely play in Lowell this year, go to instrux and could start in Greenville next year (with a mid-season move up). He doesn't have the same skill set but his 'tween-ship reminds me of David Murphy. Hatfield could probably give a better scouting report on him, though, given that he's probably seen him several times.

Would people be ok with Derek Fisher? No based on questions about his power (no HRs in Cape last summer), defensive liability (poor route running and below average arm) as well as questions from scouts about his level of effort. I would rather see the Red Sox take a chance on Greenwood, Harrison, and/or Hill who have much higher ceilings and lots of positive comments about their leadership, attitudes, drive to succeed, etc.

Who's Greenwood?

I asked because I had the sense people were ok with it and after the Blandino suggestion was met with such resistance I thought about it and Blandino is probably better than Fisher. He has hit better than Fisher in college and at the cape with wood bats, he had a Down sophomore year but went to the cape hit there and had a standout jr season. His defensive question mark aren't wether he can play 3rd it's more about the profile.
Anyways this is the long way of saying I prefer Blandino as the college hitter in the back of the 1st.

I really don't see the point in drafting Blandino. With Fisher you're still betting on upside, almost like a HS pick in that sense, but Blandino has been pegged as a utility infielder even before being drafted.

Laws last mock. insider.espn.go.com/mlb/draft/mock/?season=2014&version=4&source=Keith-Law-Mock-Draft26A.J. ReedSCHOOL: KentuckyHT: 6-4WT: 245POS: 1B Analysis: I don't think the Red Sox would love my top-25 projection -- as it deprives them of a lot of guys they like -- but I've heard them almost exclusively on college bats here, and the best ones available would be Reed, Alex Blandino, Matt Chapman, or maybe Mike Papi or Sam Travis. I keep hearing them with Chase Vallot at No. 33. PLAYER CARD
