Beeks missed some time at the end of the season with elbow soreness, but came back last week with a strong outing against Bucknell.

Beeks profiles as a serviceable lefty bullpen arm.
My guess is that Red Sox put Whitson on a shoulder program until instrux and then pitch him in Greenville next year.

Solid strategy of taking the best College Players left who are more likely to sign for slightly over slot than the HS kids that will cost a boatload.

I wonder what top College Football player the Red Sox will tab this year. There will be one. Also wonder if they grab Golson again late.

Shepherd was an all-star in the Cape League last summer.

If I remember correctly Whitson was represented by an agent who held out for top dollar until the last minute of the signing period and the Padres just chose to say "see ya". There was quite a bit of drama right at the end. The kid wanted to sign but the people around him messed it up. Really tragic in hindsight. At least that's what I recall. Let's hope this is a new day. I don't think he holds out for top dollar again but it is a very interesting pick. They should have some inside info on Whitson that maybe other teams do not have. Maybe he is a real sleeper in some ways. Put him on the arm strengthening program. Has potential to at least be a reliever hopefully. Would be a wonderful story if he hits.

Shepherd scouting report (Matt Garrioch) - Solid average to a tick above fastball due to movement and command. Big breaking slow curveball is a good pitch. Throws a harder version that tightens up as well. Good college arm. Mid to back of rotaion type.

There's the Boldt of the class. Tools and someone you can dream on. Not quite. Boldt was thought to be a top 25 talent before he got hurt. Kemp was thought to be a 3rd-4th rounder. Commitment to Fresno State.

Think he's a better gamble than some of the other picks the team has made over the past couple of years under the new CBA rules. Still, am sure some others googled and saw he had pretty severe shoulder surgery (rotator/labrum) just over 1 year ago and when he came back, was just throwing 87-88: The arm strength should come back of course, or we hope it does and it's a low risk pick.

Interesting that they've taken two Arkansas bullpen arms, Beeks and now Gunn.
