Are there any later round tough sign players the Sox are targeting? Last year it was Sheffield, who ultimately took the college route. I ask because the under slot signings leave them some assets to sign others.

Are there any later round tough sign players the Sox are targeting? Last year it was Sheffield, who ultimately took the college route. I ask because the under slot signings leave them some assets to sign others. Mike lays it out on page 10, although all those type of players are already in the unlikely to sign column. They would of been Kendall, Peterson, Matijevic. Harris would be my next pick, but my heart will always lie with Matijevic. Jonathon, I am confused do you mean "if he going to cost that amount" or if he was willing to sign for 77K under slot He got way more than I thought for someone not even ranked high in the BA rankings and went to Bryant. His only leverage was going back to a small school next season and if he tanked would been a low draft pick that would have got barely any money. I'm stunned he got 300k. Should have been less than 100k with him. I'm very surprised with the 4-5 picks and their slot signs. I know Ockimey was a target, and he has more leverage as a high schooler so I get that, but McAvoy surprises me. I don't know much about him but from what I read about him he seems like a <100K guy. I wonder if the Sox had these deals worked out predraft Pure speculation on my part, but I think the Sox would have done better financially to select these guys in opposite order. Ockimey was signed fast, and I get the feel that the 450K was agreed upon predraft. Guys that are overdrafted are also overpaid per the industry norm. So McAvoy signed for roughly 80% of slot. I'd assume that would be directionally true if he was taken in the 5th round. Once again pure speculation, but Schwaber got something like a million more than the industry had him at when the Cubs reached for him.

I would think Harris, Rolen, Alvarado would be the more likely later targets (for above slot) right now. I agree with Eric, I don't see why Alvarado can't be signed if the money is right. Any inside info on Alvarado, Mike, that puts him in the unlikely category?

Maybe we can save 100k on Sturgeon, but he's also probably got them up against the wall now that he's the last guy where they can save. They might as well sign him even if they can pocket fifty bucks. ADD: In the end, this means they've got 100k or so left to try to entice someone. There's probably no tagrgets left anyway. Maybe they can get Harris or Rolen.

Going back to Mike's list, if we are at the point where we sign every top 10 pick, and finalize with the likely to sign picks we still had a pretty darn good draft. We can only expect at this point maybe 1 wildcard/unlikely to sign guy.

It appears at this point that we've signed or agreed to terms with all of the first 20 round players except Reilly and Steen. We've also agreed to terms with 9 of the next 20 rounds. Can't be too disappointed in that.

Probably supposed to be a comma, otherwise, what a bargain. I'm sorry. I live in Europe and we use another system here. It's 10K above is regarding the reported bonus for the officially signed Sturgeon. That does give us another 90k 127.6k of flexibility. But if we don't use it, it's 90k 127.6k (and the ego-stroking single-digit round selection) that was wasted. This has been a good draft, but the late round guys who were gonna make it great seem unsignable, partly cause of lack of funds, and partly cause they're committed.

Re-doing the numbers with various guesses...
Known contracts are $125,400 under slot.
Signed but unrevealed: +150,000 (all) Fisher +0, 60,000 (both me), 75,000 (jakovos), or 150,000 (Mike) Beeks
Yet to sign: +11,500 (me) or 36,500 (Mike and jakovos) Reilly 0 (me and Mike) or 32,400 (jakovos) Steen
We're very likely to be into the 5% wiggle room regardless of whose guesses are correct (the exception would be if we're all wrong about Fisher). But how much of that wiggle room might be left for one or more of Rice, Harris, Rolen, and Alvarado is still a mystery.

Agree 100% Eric. If we are even close on Fisher, we are overslot and into the 5% overage. Once there, we might as well use as much of it as possible. I'd love it if Alvarado could be pried away from his Nebraska committment.

Is there a breakdown of what players from this draft class will play in professional games and at what leagues this year?
Also any predictions of what teams the top picks with break with?

Francisco Tellez and Gabe Klobosits are no longer listed on the rosters of their respective summer league teams. It doesn't necessarily mean they've decided to sign, but that's one possible explanation (another would be injury, another would be taking a break and/or avoiding injury, and another would be switching to play for a different team). Probably can't read too much into it at this point.
Bradley Wilpon is pitching for the Pittsfield Suns of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL).

Still disappointed we couldn't garner enough dollars to land Matijevic. Anytime there is an opportunity to add a power bat to a system light on power bats you hope to get the deal done. None the less congrats to JJ who made Baseball America's 1st Team High School All-America list along with Chavis. www.baseballamerica.com/high-school/high-school-america-team/

We've drafted and signed a lot of raw athlete high school players this year compared to the last two. I am much more excited about this draft. We only need to sign Reed Reilly to sign our first 21 draft picks.

Can't wait to see how this draft class plays out. Appears to be pretty good.
