John Tomase ?@jtomase 4m Source: Mookie Betts has been summoned from Pawtucket and is en route to NYC. No word on corresponding roster move, but it's Mookie time!

Happy for Mookie and hopefully he can spark our offense. Wonder if he gets more time in CF or RF?

Real surprised by this move. I think this is rushing him a bit.

Real surprised by this move. I think this is rushing him a bit. We're desperate for any spark we can get. Your probably right it's a little to soon but maybe he provides a Puigesque impact. The media has been mentioning a trade the last few days probably involving Peavy or Doubront I wonder if that's the corresponding move?

Desperate team, desperate times. I commend the front office for doing this now. Might as well bring up the hot bat on a team where four guys are hitting at all (Nap, Holt, Nava and Ortiz). If they don't pull out of this funk by the ASG, I'd next expect a big sell-off going into the trade deadline.

The season cannot be saved, at least by him, and I want him to have a good base under his belt. Give him a taste in September after you've traded Gomes.

Aren't we carrying an extra pitcher and only three on the bench now?
The kid has definitely earned this trip to the big leagues, but why bring him up to face Tanaka?

@jimcallismlb: Why not? He has blazed through minors, they need a jump start. @benjaminmkurt: Thoughts on redsox recalling Betts? @keithlaw: Not here “@crazyeyedkillaz: Sox promoting Betts...Not even 100 ABs in AAA and barely 200 in AA. They too aggressive in promoting prospects?

Mookie belongs at the AA all-star game, not in the Bigs.

It's rushing him, and it's the right move. He'll be fine.

For all the nonsense about rushing him, it gets a half season of experience under his belt for next season when the team should hopefully be better next year.
I'd also like to see Cecchini hopefully get it going at Pawtucket and get the call come August, and/or Marrero get the call to Pawtucket really soon, so that one of them is ready to take over as Bogaerts battery mates next season and he KNOWS which position he'll play headed into the winter.

Remember talking to a crosschecker in Manchester over Memorial Day weekend. He said he thought the Sox should have called up Betts then from Double-A to play third base instead of signing Drew.
In this case, I don't think they're rushing him. There isn't a trade market of which to speak at the moment, so it's up to the kids to provide the spark. If it doesn't work, guess what - he's got three options.

18-14 BB/K ratio
He's ready. Why not do it against Tanaka? He's gonna see him for years.

I just meant rushing in the sense that he would not be up this early if they didn't have a glaring need. Ideally I'm sure they'd like him to get at least a few hundred PA in AAA, and he still may, but I agree that any concern is misplaced.

The Red Sox put a lot of money in a southern trust Put the young man on a Greyhound Bus With a one-way ticket to the promised land. The man on the radio said Mookie's headed to the show Bye-bye Mookie Bye-bye Mookie Soxprospects loves to see ya go.

He's not the same type of prospect as Puig so you can't expect the team to suddenly turn around because he's in town. MOST moves made from a place of desperation end up being moves that you regret a year later. The most obvious corresponding move would be to send JBJ to Pawtucket.

Give my regards to Broadway Remember me to Herald Square Tell all the gang at Forty-Second Street That I will soon be there Whisper of how I'm yearning To mingle with the old time throng Give my regards to old Broadway And say that I'll be there e'er long

It's rushing him, and it's the right move. He'll be fine. Like Xander has been fine? 100 OPS+ for a 21 year old in his first season is perfectly acceptable.
