Can they get Craig healed up so he can have a fresh start next season? It seems that this ankle or foot thing has been bothering him for almost two years. Can the guy get surgery and have it fixed? Its like he keeps trying to play through it and its not helping him or the club. Plus the sox might not make the playoffs anyway.

Looking to get one of these --middle game-- but runs are going to be tough to come by. Hope Big Father doesn't get hurt out in the field.

Sure hope they play Mookie every day if he's on the 25. Farrell has said more than once that he's looking to use Mookie "versus lefties" - which is inane if exclusive to lefties, as well as insane.

Farrell is pretty damn stupid when it comes to splits. Mookie barely has one that can be seen other than he doesn't OPS 2.000 vs. RHP.

If they're not going to play Mookie regularly, he needs to be getting reps in Pawtucket at whatever position the front office thinks he's most likely to help them next year.

Just do what it takes to get him ready to go for 2015. They're going to give Craig's at-bats to Mookie, right? And Brown's just there as a bonus/emergency guy, right? If he plays even 2 innings over Betts, I'm going to throw a fit!

Betts’ 2014 MiLB Splits: vs. RHP: .298/.388/.481/.869 vs. LHP: .427/.507/.624/1.131 Major platoon splits. Platoon player! Can they get Craig healed up so he can have a fresh start next season? Its like he keeps trying to play through it and its not helping him or the club. Plus the sox might not make the playoffs anyway. Unless I'm missing something, I don't think there was anything wrong with Craig's foot until September 2013. But, yeah, I agree with the sentiment that there's no reason to play him until he's truly healthy.

And Brown's just there as a bonus/emergency guy, right? If he plays even 2 innings over Betts, I'm going to throw a fit! Corey Brown is out of options, and Kelly Johnson will be coming off the DL within a few days. I don't think they selected Brown's contract in order to DFA him three days later, so Betts is likely to go back down in a few days, a move many of us have been clamoring for. That they selected Brown instead of recalling Hassan suggests that they want to keep Hassan in Pawtucket playing every day, and that may be the reason they recalled Mookie instead of him, even knowing that Farrell wouldn't play him much. Note that if Johnson does replace Betts, the bench will be Holt (L), (2B), 3B, RF, CF, LF Johnson (L), (2B), LF, 3B Brown (L), OF Which of course is very strange given that the starting CF and one corner OF are LHB, and that the last two bench guys are of no interest or use. (Presumably vs. LHP, Holt will platoon with Nava.) So the Brown addition is very much prioritizing doing the right thing for the young players over winning. Given that we're 1/2 game back of the fifth worst record, it's hard to complain about that. Presumably, Hassan and Brentz will get some platoon opportunities in September.

Plus, by all accounts, this ankle injury which put Craig on the DL is a new injury that came as a result of stepping on a base funny in a game last week. There are no reports that it's related to the injury which plagued him in September 2013 or that the reason Craig has struggled most of this year is due to injury.

It is absolutely nuts how they have used Mookie. Play him or send him down and let him get reps. His swing reminds me of McCutchen at the plate. I want to see more of it.

I still think its kind of odd how we traded for a guy riddled with injuries like Craig. How did they not know this?

Play Mookie! Play Mookie! Play Mookie!
I get the Johnson deal. It was just a way for Boston to pick up some of that cash, rather than NYC. I think he never makes the roster.
And I'm thinking we wanted Kelly more than Craig but St Louis wanted to move Craig. Possibly they were aware of his ankle situation and got us to take him off their hands. I've got to believe the Sox must have done some diligence though. Maybe they just wanted Kelly that badly still?
I would just release Brown. We should be giving the guys we believe in for the future the playing time.
