I'd just rest him for the rest of the year and tell him to get surgery if it would help. I'm sure the Sox were well versed about his lingering foot problem.

It's too early to be trashing Craig. Let's wait until we hear a legitimate diagnosis on his foot/ankle (one that clarifies his health status for 2015). Because if he can truly be healthy for next season, he's a very useful, above-average hitter.
I'm curious as to why Cespedes isn't getting some work in RF in St. Louis? Perfectly symmetrical field, seems like a good opportunity.

Did we know he was damaged goods and if so, why did we trade for him? Especially when he has nowhere to play? I'm going to guess that Cespedes has requested to not play RF which makes this entire thing even weirder.

We knew we were getting an established .800+ OPS hitter whose numbers fell off a cliff this year. Age isn't responsible -- it's almost certainly health-related, with the Tavarez/playing time issue also maybe playing a minor factor. There's also been word of his mechanics being off, likely a result of whatever's up with his foot. I highly doubt the Sox looked at 2014 as a random down year for him. Cespedes has indicated he's perfectly fine playing any of the three outfield positions. I really don't think he's made any such request. It's Farrell, not Cespedes.

Not trashing him, but he seems like damaged goods. And the questions remain. Did we know he was damaged goods and if so, why did we trade for him? Especially when he has nowhere to play? The fact that he's injured might actually be a good thing. His OPS has dropped 250 points since his peak; if that's caused by an injury, and the injury looks like it's going to fully heal by next spring, that's the perfect scapegoat for his down year. The alternative is that his bat speed/mechanics are just broken, which frankly seems scarier than a lingering injury.

It is not a stretch to think it may be chronic...and not the good kind of Chronic. Next year will be the 3rd year of his contract and, if he heals he will be cheap. Just the kind of player the Red Sox seem to like.

At about 8:30 on ESPN they said it would be at least another hour before the game starts.

It would be lovely if the Red Sox decided to keep Xander at short for the remainder of his career.

Joe Kelly looking pretty solid, especially when you consider the situation of pitching against your former teammates/best man (Miller).

They had to have know this... Right? The bottom line is if Allen Craig was 100% healthy and performing like he did last year he wouldn't have even been available. The Cardinals were in a tough spot between trying to win the division and finding time for both Craig + Tavares who were struggling. The teams trade extensive medical records, have team doctors review all the medicals, and make the decisions. I'm all for letting Craig rest up the rest of the season, get surgery, or whatever he needs so he is 100% recovered heading into next season. He's on a very cheap deal and is a piece for at least next year, so let him heal, there is nothing to gain this year.

I think Vazquez catches the ball with his glove moving back towards the strike zone. At least that's how it looks.
Our friend capuano spun a gem against the tigers. That figures.

Man, Middlebrooks' OBP is finally at 100 points above his average at .295! Of course his slugging is only 40 points higher than that.

Very solid outing from Kelly. This is exactly what he was doing last year: doesn't strike people out, walks too many people, but for whatever reason is able to bear down and get the outs when they're most important.
It strikes me as an unsustainable profile, but what do I know?
