In addition to Brian Johnson leading the EL in ERA by a substantial margin, he also leads in WHIP substantially. .99 vs. 1.07. Henry had a 1.12 WHIP (3rd).

I know it's abitrary, but since it's just for discussion and nothing else, here's his stats from when we saw significant improvement from Bell and before. Last 7 starts: 36 IP, 24 H, 19 R, 12 ER, 14 BB, 25 K Prior 9 starts: 43.1 IP, 71 H, 39 R, 35 ER, 17 BB, 29 K Obviously far from perfect, but it is still a step forward and an important one at that. Has Ball really improved, though? Seems like mostly just a function of BABIP-luck. His K-rate and BB-rate haven't improved at all really, it's just the number of hits that have fallen recently. Manny Margot is having a great season, and coming on strong lately. .270/.341/.421 with a strong .778 BB/K rate. Solid power, lots of steals, good plate discipline. Looks like he sprays hits to all fields, too. I'm excited. On pace for about 15 HR and 60 SB with a seemingly good approach at the plate as a 19 year old in the Sally league. Sign me up. mlbfarm.com/player.php?player_id=622534&position=CFJust found mlbfarm.com like right now; where has this site been? Great resource. I just learned about it last week while listening to trade deadline reports on MLB radio (sirius xm). It is a great resource. Apparently a one man operation.

(Moderators should move all this into his thread, of course). Feel free to copy and paste it in there as a new post on your own if you would like. The mods typically don't engage in the evaluation of individual posts to determine whether they should be moved out of a gameday thread.

I just learned about it last week while listening to trade deadline reports on MLB radio (sirius xm). It is a great resource. Apparently a one man operation. Every time I've posted to look at a spray chart, it's been referencing that site. That's also where I look at data that isn't grouped by the last ten games limitation. It's definitely a nice site. Still has some quirks and you need to be careful about some of the data like lower level pitch counts where the boxes are almost always wrong. You can pretty much trust the data from AA and up and the basic numbers accross all the levels. Lower level boxes are pretty sketchy. One other note: You can't select a spray chart location and just do a link to it. If you want to show a spray chart you have to make a picture then save it someplace online then reference it here. That's why I haven't posted any spray charts from there, just referenced them at the player's page. I found Ranaudo's spray charts to be interesting, for example.

1) BABIP in the low minors is mostly not luck. I can buy that there's more of a skill component to low-minors pitcher BABIP than there is in the majors, but you're going to have to do a lot more to make me believe that low-minors pitcher BABIP is mostly skill. That's especially true because low-minors defenses are so sketchy. I don't doubt that Ball has improved, but just looking at his ERA vastly overstates the magnitude of improvement IMO.

Ball's BABIP of .413 in April-June is based on some combination of bad luck or pitching terribly. So either he's not as unlucky now (wasn't as bad all along) or he's pitching a lot better. Either way, good news.
