Ball is already at 73 1/3 innings pitched. He probably has 3-4 starts left in him this year until he reaches 90 innings which seems like a good innings cap this year. Only pitched 7 innings last season professionally.

There are a bunch of guys in Greenville coming up on innings limits, presumably:
Callahan (59.2IP in 2013, 92.1IP in 2014) Stank (80.1IP in 2013*, 108.1IP in 2014) McGrath (53.1IP in 2013, 71.2IP in 2014)
Buttrey and Smith are fine.
*College and pro

Callahan innings limit is probably 110. Stank maybe 125-130 but that 80 innings last year was pro and college so he may be closing is sooner than my number for him. McGrath 100-105.

Four consecutive singles by Escobar in the 4th but one hitter was thrown out trying to stretch it to a double. A smash to Shaw for an unassisted DP gets Escobar out of the inning unscathed.
Still no score, mid 4th.

Escobar pitching for the PawSox, not Hernandez. Tuned in late but he just escaped 4 consecutive singles to open the inning without allowing a run. 1st single runner thrown out trying to stretch it, last batter bases loaded linedrive DP to Shaw.
2 minutes too slow

Brian MacPherson ?@brianmacp 31s Edwin Escobar throwing low-90s fastball with mixed results. Keeps trying to spot changeup down and away to righties, keeps missing.

Brown's HR came on a FB that was too high and easily cleared the CF fence. So far, from the 2 innings I've seen, the batters are making solid contact against Escobar. All the singles were hard hit.
McAlister had the wheels fall off. Seems to have command issues out of the stretch. Lots of deep counts.

Interesting inning. 12 or 13 pitch walk followed by an opposite field off the wall linedrive double (change up). After that, he cranked up the volume, was hitting 93-94 previously was sitting around 91.

After that, he cranked up the volume, was hitting 93-94 previously was sitting around 91. Pretty sure he knew that the 6th was going to be his last inning. Celestino is warming. Brian MacPherson ?@brianmacp 1m The two lefties in the Columbus lineup look totally overmatched against Edwin Escobar, flailing at sliders. The righties, less so. Brian MacPherson ?@brianmacp 58s Edwin Escobar finished for the day: 6 IP, 8 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 HR. 92 pitches, 58 strikes. Solid, unspectacular outing.

Johnson has been pitching so well at Portland with stats rivaling Owens'. Although last season was cut short leaving little record, to me Johnson has been one of the MAJOR surprises this season. Recently I read within this website (perhaps part of a multi-player write-up that appears periodically) that Johnson was in the 89-91 range which is a bit at odds with the player page that indicates a 92-93 sitting with a top of 94-95. I would like to think that he does not have to be wily. What is his velocity??

I read that Johnson threw at around 90, which is enough to keep them honest. As a general rule, a prospects velocity is anywhere from 1-3 mph lower than the velocity he allegedly sits at on the prospects page.

Johnson usually sits 90-92 but dials it up periodically, but not often, to 94-95. In spite of that he's a command and control pitcher type, not a dominance pitcher type. His strong point is excellent command and management of his three pitch mix. He rarely has any short bouts where his pitches aren't there. I can only recall one meltdown all year.
After 4 , matching one hitters. Johnson's hit was off his first pitch of the game, a ground double off a fastball that was a bit high.

Jon Meoli ? Jon Meoli 31s #redsox LHP Brian Johnson sitting 88-91 through five, CU, CH coming along as outing progresses. Retired 14 straight since leadoff 2B. I note that Johnson tends to ramp up his FB as the game goes on.
