I like Cespedes behind Papi. At least early in the game Papi should get pitched to.
Could be a long night, lots of storms around and really humid.

Moookie puts an exclamation point behind the phrase, why hasn't he been leading off?

Is our Bullpen getting paid bonuses for every blown game?

How can we only go 1 for 12 with RISP.
Our stinking with RISP has hurt us all year.

"Is our Bullpen getting paid bonuses for every blown game?" ---------------------------------------------------------- When you're tanking... you can keep 'the Drake' in the 9th with a one run lead (against lhh's). His so/walk was ok but had he walked two and they lost Farrell would have got hammered.
Mookie's knee hit the field pretty good on that short fly ball. I think he's going to feel that Sunday.

Larry, if you look at the performance of this year's team with runners in scoring position, and without, there's hardly any difference. For much of the season, the team hasn't made enough contact to do either. That's what needed to change.

Did you know: the team that leaves more runners on base wins the game something like 54% of the time. In other words, it's better to have runners on base and strand them than to not have them on at all.

In other words, it's better to have runners on base and strand them than to not have them on at all. Now here is an example of a stat that may or may not mean what it seems to mean. Look at that stat for more competitive games (decided by, say, 3 runs or fewer) versus less competitive ones (4 or more). I don't know this for a fact, but I suspect that in the less competitive games the winner has more LOB a pretty high percentage of the time -- they just have it offensively on that particular day relative to the other team so they have more of everything, including LOB. If true, that would suggest that more competitive games are split in a different way. In other words, when your team wins or loses big LOB is more often irrelevant, and when the games are close and LOB may be more important, the stats may suggest a different story.

Post was in reference to Craig Breslow's inability to get outs, it's by far the worst season of his career, I don't really care about losing, I'm just shocked at how good of a job they're doing at sucking.

RDLR gets hammered when his off speed stuff hangs high. If he can ever control things enough to keep the ball consistently low he will be a stud. Throw an occasional high fastball fine but if the changeups or curve hang high he gets body slammed.

Steven Wright is dealing, gotta give him a start or two to see what they have... This. Give the guy his 3 or 4 starts and let's see what happens. As for today's game, a loss. Good. Now that they have 63 wins and can't lose 100, let's aquarium the rest of the season. I want to see what this organization can do with high draft status and a couple of years to get acquainted with the new system.

Wright made the day interesting.
Farrell cannot pinch hit ... maybe in a meaningful game.

What if Wright is the best of the pitching prospects and we never find out? I'm beginning to think this is a possibility.

I've been saying all year that Wright was the best of the 2014 PawSox pitchers and deserved the rotation spots that have gone to Ranaudo and Workman. Maybe we'll see that going forward.
But I mostly want to point out that the Boston Globe had not one word about that outing, which was spectacular (the only ball hit in the air was a bunt popout). Julian Benbow went on and on about Dickey, and never mentioned that he was outpitched, by a mile, by our own knuckleballer. Imagine if any non-knuckler prospect had put up that line. If Matt Barnes' second outing of this year is a 5 2 0 0 0 1 6 line in relief, with 10 groundballs and a popup, it'll be the focus of the game story.

Yeah, this is interesting. Wright has been very good in his ML callups and he deserves props for that. It's almost as if the news outlets don't have writers with the depth of knowledge to know what they're looking at. He's in his late 20s and maybe that plays into it. But anyone with more than a passing knowledge of baseball and knuckleballers knows he's just a kid in that parallel universe. Most impressive is the command. He actually seems to be able to tell that thing where to go.
