What a horrible AB by Perez. Edit: And Infante. I think he compensated. Is it me or did Donaldson look slow reacting to that ?

Oh Billy, Billy, Billy. Your big gamble. Your big shot at shutting up all your critics and haters. Your big all or nothing approach to this year. Ouch. And now you have 2015 staring you right in the face. Ouch.

Best non-Sox game I've seen in quite a while. Jesus Christ, Ned Yost is just the most lovable moron ever.

Not entirely sure if I just watched a baseball game or had a stroke or both.

You can't judge a season on a single play but I wonder, if Cespedes is in left, if Donaldson isn't guarding the line more given Cespedes arm.

A lot of the aggressive stuff the Royals do is kind of dumb and counterproductive. But running like crazy on catchers who can't throw isn't one of them. They led baseball in steals, and they did it with a better than 80% success rate. For all the caterwauling about how Soto had never caught Lester, if he had been able to stay in the game the A's probably win because the Royals don't run at will against him.

@aceballstats: Teams are now 1-61 (.016) in postseason games in which the opposing team has a 5+ RBI player and they do not
THEM RBIs

...makes me happy to think about Vazquez - and Swihart - in the Red Sox fold.
The steals killed Oakland, saving Yost from his own foolishness.

Everything that came after that... shouldn't have.

First stolen base in the 8th saved KC from a DP. I found it curious at the time that they were stealing down 4 in the 8th, but it worked out. Was the changing point in the game.

Gawd, I was thinking the same thing ... it's really, really nice to have a catcher that controls the running game so well. There were a few years there where the Sox were just as bad as the A's last night, and it was always painful. I started just laughing at the bunts after the first couple. Would've enraged me if I was a Royals fan, but as a fairly disinterested observer ... just got kind of funny.
