Lester looks like he could sure use a good strike-framer.

Sloppy Oakland defense cost Lester there.
Edit: And sloppy Royals base running saves Lester.

Billy Butler, what the hell are you doing even a foot off first base?

So what will it take for Shields to lose the "Big Game" monicker which was never really earned to begin with ?

Good job Ned Yost. Not only did you call a stupid play, you then proceeded to throw both of the players involved under the bus when it failed.

TBS is interviewing someone in the stands and it's not Rany Jazayerli? Fail.

Why bring in the kid, Ventura? This is a team with one of the best bullpens in the game. Yost mystifies me.

How did the Pirates and Phillies also blow it on Moss?

Holy crap, I didn't even hear that Ventura threw 73 pitches 2 days ago. 23 years old. Can't figure out what decision is dumber.

Yost is basically the strictest seven/eighth/ninth-inning hierarchy manager out there. This game is a prime example of why that philosophy is dumb (or, at the very least, should be adjusted in the postseason).

How did the Pirates and Phillies also blow it on Moss? It just takes a while, sometimes, patience. Oakland platoons him also, to maximize his effectiveness. That team can afford to do what a lot of big market teams can't, ignore the noise and find value where they can.

@jazayerli: I really think this game might have been decided when Jonny Gomes hit a home run off Scott Downs, two months and one team ago.
Jonny Gomes. Intangibles galore.

The Royals wait 29 years between playoff appearances and Yost has a Grady Little moment. He will be fired by the end of 2014.

It's somewhat troublesome to me that Lester is pitching into the post season two years in a row.
