It's my daughter's 5th birthday party today. In about three hours, there will be two pastors at my house and we're next to a church who will be holding their Sabbath services complete with loud singing and a vocal fire and brimstone preacher with a microphone. Now the question, are both Moncada and Alvarez too much to ask for ? MLB Trade Rumors ?@mlbtraderumors 2h2 hours ago Yadier Alvarez Seeking Waiver To Allow Deal www.mlbtraderumors.com/?p=47359

I was pissed when we missed out on Abreu for 5 mil. I honestly didn't feel we were going to get Moncada so I don't think I would be mad. But Jmei is there a Yadier Alvarez page? I believe it was Badler who said the Red Sox were really interested in signing him but wasn't going to be able to sign this period. Now he's trying to get a waiver to sign this period. I don't know if we would still go after him after signing Moncada but something to discuss.

We have a generic international signings page where discussion of Yadier Alvarez should go (if it heats up, I will split that discussion into a separate thread, but post Alvarez stuff in that thread for now).

I don't think the odds of projecting top 30 16 year old players are as good as it would seem. There were no Sano/Devers types available this year. The Yankees have been pretty consistently among the top DR spenders and have come out with some pretty well thought of prospects. On the other hand, how well have Montero, Sanchez, the killer B's worked out for them ? Name any DR prospect they developed and brought to the majors. Cano

Interesting that they think he's AA bound this year. I was favoring A+ personally.
On the questions about his approach: I'm not worried because there may not be a better organization in baseball when it comes to developing great hitting approaches than the Red Sox.

Cuba, Guatemala, Florida, Maine in April. Which one of these doesn't belong ? I viewed the article as interesting in that they predict league average at AA at age 20. That doesn't happen very often. Also the approach is currently only a little below league average, I'm with you there, highly unlikely that doesn't improve assuming reasonable character.

I'm starting to understand why Marrero has the respect of so many of his peers. Here's a quote about Moncada taken from Bleacher Report's story on the record setting bonus: There's also a bit more to Smyly's quote than had previously made it onto these pages: The B/R author, Anthony Witrado, makes no bones about where he comes down on the issue: Well worth the read.

According to various tweets, Moncada has passed the physicals and the Sox are only waiting for drug test results. After that he will go to minor league spring training camp.

Kiley McDaniel ?@kileymcd 5m5 minutes ago Source: looking like Friday will be the day for the Moncada press conference, but not set in stone just yet.

It'll be interesting to see where he goes on MLB's prospect watch list (even though their rankings are the biggest crapshoot IMO).

I'm guessing first. Yesterday Callis answered yes to a tweet asking if Moncada could be the top rated baseball prospect next year. Their Red Sox rankings are due out Monday.

Oh I meant on the top 100 but we can only hope he's 1 next year, although jumping Correa and Buxton seems unlikely and try won't be graduating from prospect status.

Nick Cafardo ?@nickcafardo 4m4 minutes ago Florida, USA Cuban sensation Yoan Moncada on the back field at Red Sox complex getting some instruction
It's twitter rumored that he's been there taking BP for a few days.
ADD: Not to read too much into it but he's there with the Greenville Drive hitting coach according to Maureen Mullen.
