Tim Britton ?@timbritton 13m13 minutes ago Turns out Joe Kelly will NOT start Sunday as scheduled. He'll throw a side while Steven Wright takes the hill.

There are 4 outfielders in that lineup that would be favorites to be starters on several teams none of which are the Red Sox.
My pet dream here is that Castillo makes the decision a really really difficult one.
Craig needs to cut down the strikeouts and Cecchini needs to step it up against lefties. . . . Maureen Mullen ?@maureenamullen Redsox Ps @ PIT: Miley (3 IP/54 pitches), Barnes, Hembree, Eveland, Ross, Hinojosa. MiL gms: Tazawa, Mujica.

I'm going to go out on a limb today and predict that Castillo's OPS will drop.
Cecchini k against a lefty. Seems to struggle a lot against lefties.
Miley looked good in the first, threw a mix of pitches. Marte took him to 7 or 8 pitches tho.
JBJ taking a single up the middle on a high fastball from a lefty. Still looking sharp.
Miley keeping the ball on the ground except for the very first batter with a 1 pitch flyout. Even the foul balls are on the ground. 2nd inning ending DP.
Cecchini and Kelly with ks against Liriano's slider. Nava looks good lefty on lefty.

Sox using DH, Pirates not. Don't think I've seen that before.
Are those the Pirates' broadcasters doing the game with Remy on NESN?

No it's the pirates broadcasters doing the audio with a NESN feed.
JBJ with a nice walk.
No no-no for Miley.

So Remy's just sitting in with them?

So Remy's just sitting in with them? This happens a lot in spring training, where Don and Jerry will join up with the other teams broadcasters. Usually only three can be in the booth at a time, so they'll cycle through taking a couple innings off. The game gets broadcasted on both teams networks, and note that each networks field reporters are present, too.

It depends on what feed you are listening to. By default, it's Pirates audio overlay of NESN TV.I think NESN is also doing a broadcast with Remy. When they show the booth it's the NESN booth. The Pirates end is slightly delayed.
If you go to change broadcast, the audio options are different for NESN vs Root.

LOL, I thought so too. Castillo sure is aggressive though.

I gotta say, Wade Miley looks pretty good today. Locating the fastball pretty well with late life, and consistently keeping the curve low. That curveball is one hell of a pitch.
Granted it was Francisco Liriano, but Cecchini keeps getting fooled on off-speed offerings in the zone, seems to be transferring his weight far too early.
ADD: Wall ball 2B for JBJ off Mark Melancon. Even more impressive to me was his first two at-bats against the lefty Liriano, specifically his ability to lay off Liriano's slider and change. Bradley has looked very impressive today...definitely a different player than last year.

I'm not sure if the TV broadcast is different now. This is the first time I've seen the audio options in the change broadcast box. For ROOT, it says "audio overlay".
For reference, I had a brownout about 3 hours ago and shut down my computer. Whe I rebooted there was an Adobe Flash update.

Berry must be healthy. I'm not sure why he was out but he's back. Castillo with a more realistic 2.750 OPS now. And Berry being Berry.

Miley looks like the reincarnation of Bill Lee and against a free swinging line-up, could be effective. Are there many of those in the AL? Liriano is what we hope Owens could be.
I think that Weeks and Holt are the reserve infielders.
Nava makes the team on his versatility and OBP. Castillo will send down with Bradley no matter what to extend the opportunity to showcase Craig & Victorino.
I did not see terrifically power stuff from Barnes or off-speed that looked deceptive or very sharp.

Weeks is a definite upgrade to Herrera but no way he makes the 25 man (baring injuries).

Weeks is a definite upgrade to Herrera but no way he makes the 25 man. Probably the first one up when Holt gets injured, or someone else which puts Holt in a starting spot.

They've been playing him a lot at 3B which he hasn't played before. I'm sure it is to increase his versatility. I'm not sure how Bianchi is getting any ABs at Pawtucket, might be sent to Portland.

The focus has been on the angst around the pitching - and for good reason - but looking on the other side of the team ... what if Rusney Castillo is better than we think? If so, the Sox position player lineup would look like a total monster.

yeah, with the roster crunch they have, there's no way that Weeks heads north.... barring injury

Based on spring training, the path to multiple World Series is obvious. Trade Victorino and Napoli for Salem level high ceiling pitching, move HanRam to 1B now and start Castillo, Betts and JBJ in the outfield. LOL, seriously, it's looking like the Sox are going to have some tough decisions at the final cut.
