Battle for top 10 (protected) draft picks in 2016 draft
|
Post by James Dunne on Jul 21, 2015 16:13:53 GMT -5
That might be ambitious. Beyond Philadelphia, Milwaukee really stinks too. We need to start fining players for good play and awarding a team least valuable player award. Now I get why all these people are saying to give Allen Craig another shot.

If the season ended right now, BOS would have the 4th pick in the 2016 MLB draft:
1. PHI ---- 2. MIA -7.0 3. COL -9.0 4. BOS -10.0 (6-game losing streak) 5. MIL -10.0 (4-game winning streak) 6. CIN -10.5 7. OAK -10.5 8. SEA -11.0 9. CHW -11.5 10. ARZ -12.0 11. SDO -12.0 12. TEX -12.5 13. ATL -13.0 14. CLE -13.0
(tiebreaker order of the above teams is ARZ, COL, TEX, BOS, CHW, PHI, CIN, MIA, SDO, ATL, MIL, CLE, SEA, OAK)
3 games separate #4 from #14.

How embarrassing is it that this thread is still viable, and worse, that we have tiebreakers designed to help the historically bad teams.
So, bearing in mind that at this time last year it was Cameron, Mantuella the Florida ss, and only one was a top 5 pick, and Benintendi didn't exist on any list until March, who are we looking at for top 5 picks?

*sigh* so much for the mindset of hoping to get a really good pick in the top 10 because we probably won't ever be picking there again for a while. I'd be ecstatic if this team put together a run and finished somewhere more in the 15-20 range.

The general consensus now (12 months before the draft) is that there are eight premium prospects (in alphabetical order): Nick Banks, RF, Texas A&M Austin Bergner, RHP, Windemere Prep HS (FL) (UNC commitment) Jason Groome, RHP, IMG Academy (FL) (Vanderbilt commitment) Alec Hansen, RHP, Oklahoma Riley Pint, RHP, St. Thomas Aquinas HS (KS) (LSU commitment) A.J. Puk, LHP, Florida Blake Rutherford, CF, Chaminade Prep HS (CA) (UCLA commitment) Robert Tyler, RHP, Georgia Obviously, this will change. Lots of pitchers, not a lot of hitters (especially HS hitters). Other names to be aware of: Ryan Boldt (2013 draftee, Nebraska), Jordan Sheffield (2013 draftee, Vandy, injured), Matt Thaiss (2013 draftee, UVA) Responding to stevedillard, from earlier in the thread.

A three game winning streak could have us outside the top ten worse records. I have confidence we can end up in the top ten though!

We're only 2 back of Miami for the no. 2 overall pick, with buchholz out a while and people likely to be traded/dumped.

Yeah Ive been thinking, if our second round pick is essentially in the same area where comp picks typically are, does that alter the calculus of signing a free agent SP which they have been wary of anyway.

Our wins versus Miami may come back to haunt us.

With today's win, the Red Sox have fallen to the #6 spot. Even with today's ten run victory, the Red Sox are #2 in negative run differential, trailing only the Phighting Phillies.

Given that it will cost a 2nd rd pick instead of a first in compensation. I hope the Sox brass decide to alter there thinking on 30 year old pitchers, it is realistically the only way to get a true ace. Unless of course you get lucky or develop one. I don't usually agree with Schilling but he is correct on the value to the whole staff to have an established leader.

Adds a little more spice to watching to see who else gets traded this week.

2.5 games separate #3 from #10.

With our brutal pitching staff, mediocre offense, and mediocre defense, the Sox can do this. Let's go Red Sox.

The battle for Jason Groome. Am I the only one who loves seeing where names that get thrown out this early end up? By the time the draft rolls around we could be mad if he get's picked.
