My Feeling behind Farrell is this, "your right" he cannot play for these Guys, but he can have them mentally prepared to play. Today, HRamirez on second ground ball to the 3B, Ramirez runs, out at third, a single later in the inning might have gotten you a run. To me, that is not being mentally prepared to play. That my friend is on the Manager.. I don't think they weren't "mentally prepared." These are veteran players with some significant achievements. They are always prepared but they don't always perform up to their standrds. They did some stupid things today, but this is not the kind of game that should be used to pass judgment. Too many crazy things happened. It wasn't normal. Forget about it. Also forget about Farrell being fired. Henry made it abundantly clear that it isn't going to happen now. Add the 2 embarrassing losses in Texas my friend and that constitutes "not prepared to play". I still say its on the manager, but if your right, then its on Cherington for bringing in these one dimensional players. Im the first to admit, this Team looked good on paper. Why hasn't it translated outside of a #1 SP?

Can someone explain to me how we shouldn't blame Farrell again? If so I instruct you to watch this game. You know the one where we've had 4 horrible baserunning mistakes, atrocious defense all around and just piss poor fundamentals along with horrific bullpen management. We absolutely have one of the worst 5 managers in the league in our dugout. So what you're saying is that you think a major league manager does the same things a high school baseball coach does? Interesting.

Can we please move ortiz out of the three hole in the lineup?
He may need some quality bench time in order to rediscover his ability to hit anything other than a fastball.
Three or four months should do the trick!

Three or four months should do the trick! He really needs to sit against lefties. Slide Hanley to DH. Maybe, when Victorino comes back we'll start to do that. Helps the offense and defense.

Really tough to watch this season.
I'm sure the stat guys will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember a stretch this long of bad hitting, bad d, and bad base running at the same time in all my years. The early to mid 60's were bad but almost always a few guys were hitting. I don't even feel like defending the manager, front office ,or pitchers. Sometimes you just have to punch a wall.
It could have been worse. I have a nightmare of a short pop up to center, Rusney runs over Mookie and Xander, then hurts his back helping with the stretchers. Good grief.

Should get Chris Christie in there at third, comes cheaper and cant be much worse. Plus, he looks slightly more svelte than Panda.

Wow. I'm losing hope. A 3-1 series really would have brought a good vibe, them now getting to koji and stealing this game from us is hard to swallow. Good night everyone (it's after midnight here). The game reports tomorrow will hurt badly. For sure. I'm mainly quoting this post to ask the staff a question, which I'm sure should be asked somewhere else but not sure where. Poster Colognerdsox has been around a long time. Why is he still listed as a rookie?

For sure. What have been thinking of since ST with Sandoval and his fat belly is how at least it took George Scott until his 30's to get that fat and out of shape, then he would make some kind of effort to lose it during ST and how Sandoval just doesn't give a flip. Maybe if that blob of gut isn't in the way he gets down for that throw from Swihart today?
4 more years to go for someone who hacks at everything and makes -0- effort to take care of a huge weight problem. Just remember The Boomer's problem preceded his last 2 years of poor offensive seasons and his once prestine glove work turning into lead at 1b.

Sandoval's weight issues are probably not the cause of his defensive problems this year. He has been much heavier in years past and still been a pretty good defender. The fact that he's fat also does not imply that he has a poor work ethic or is lazy.

Thank you, If that is the reason I don't like it. He is a thoughtful poster who doesn't post much. Seems off to give veteran status for spewing over time to me, but that would explain it.

He's thin though so he just gets grief when he misses time. Or gets caught being lazy, like not backing up bases . Wanted to add, not defending Panda's play. It's been brutal. Just don't think it's because he's fat.

The Red Sox keep on finding ways to destroy themselves. They play two crisp games against the Twins, make you think that maybe, just maybe they're finally turning the corner, and then the bats go dead, and then they go brain dead and give away the game. I guess tomorrow it'll be time for the starter to get knocked out in the 2nd inning again.
The baserunning has been atrocious, but what's kind of ironic is how much of a mirror image it is to the baserunning the Sox had in 2013. I'm not necessarily talking the fact that Ellsbury, Victorino, and Pedroia atop the lineup in 2013 all stole 20 plus bases and had good speed, but it seemed like everybody ran the bases aggressively and well. This is anecdotal, but I remember Gomes constantly taking the extra base, Napoli running the bases smartly. The Sox seemed to challenge every OF's arm and scored a lot of extra runs due to aggressiveness.
Now that aggressiveness is turning to stupidity and the Sox are giving outs away that they can't afford on the base paths. They don't go 1st to 3rd on singles, and they clog the bases so that it's easier to strand runners or get them doubled off. It seems to be a reason why they can't score a reasonable pct of their runners unless they're hitting a HR or benefitting from a defensive breakdown.

Hope not also and remember too that he was huge in his SF days. beckett also had a habit of reporting with a gut sometimes, so lets hope that he just has some other physical issue that is affecting his defensive play ATM.

His size helps him to get on base though: More space, a bigger probability of getting HBP* *Team leader with 5
