Any chance he pitches in the GCL this year if keeps that up (not results focused, but the stuff)? If accurate, sitting 95 and throwing strikes, that should play up in the GCL. I know visa's can be an issues, though.

I know visa's can be an issues, though. Not that I really have any ideal but they did promote Devers from the DSL to the GCL last year. I know he's not a pitcher but I'd imagine the same concept should apply; if he looks completely unmatched and ahead of DSL players then I'd assume there is at least a chance.

He should be in Greenville right now.
Just kidding. They moved Devers last year so I guess its possible but Devers is a hitter and if I remember correctly he had gone through instructs and spring training in the US already so he at least was prepared for that. I don't think Espinoza was at either instructs or spring training this year.

Urias will probably pitch in the majors this year so why can't Espinoza?

It's possible, but the point Norberto raised regarding Devers having already been in the U.S. for Instructs, ST, and XST is a key one. He'd been projected to start in the GCL based on the fact that he was over here in the states, so it was a surprise that he even went to the DSL at all. Conversely, Espinoza, Acosta, and the rest of both teams have been in the DR academy the whole time, so I'm inclined to think they stay in the DSL all year.
Honestly, there's not much of a reason to bring them over to the US until the fall unless they're evaluating them for a jump to Greenville to start next year. I'd be inclined to think that highly unlikely. If they're heading to Lowell, then keeping them in the DSL this whole year isn't going to hinder that.

Also, I can't start a thread, but would like to read one on Tzu-Wei Lin. Safe to say that the next time y'all put out your top 60, he's gotta be in there? He's 21 and starting to hit in High A? Anyone seen any Salem games? Is he a legit defender at ss? He must at least be insanely fast. Outside of the Cubans, I feel like he got the biggest int. signing we've ever given an amateur? He most have some tools? Second to Tazawa (when you include his MLB deal). When you factor in inflation, edged by Vinicio. When you factor in the downscaling of draft slot recommendations with the new draft rules, also less than Almanzar (who got 15th pick money versus Lin's 17th pick). But he's up there.

Take this as coming from a guy who loved the way Caleb Clay repeated his delivery ... but I've never been more smitten by footage of an amateur pitcher we signed or drafted than I was with Espinoza. After that debut, I'm trying real hard to curb my enthusiasm.

Also, it's his agent, so, massive grain of salt. I shared the skepticism on the agent's report, but here's Alex Speier's report: So ... pretty nice debut. Just a word of caution: Speier may be getting that 97 number from the same place the rest of us did. He may also be getting it from someone in the Red Sox FO. I'd be surprised if there was a non-affiliated person he was in contact with who is in the DR with a radar gun to scout Espinoza.

Yeah, Speier is almost certainly getting fed DSL scouting info from the front office. Really, anything that isn't specifically attributed to "an unnamed scout" is probably from the front office.
