That Clay outside cutter for a K looking with 1 out bases loaded in the 3rd to Vogt is basically the biggest pitch of the night.

Just awesome. Everything's different now (at least until gametime Tuesday.) E-Rod'S gonna K 16 and glare up at the press box in Duquette's direction.

I started a "Lets go Red Sox!!!" chant from the RF bleachers that may or may not have saved the season. Don't want to take too much credit but you're welcome boys We all know you left after the seventh inning. Right, sure thing brah... Edit: was staying regardless, didnt think a comeback was plausible and was kinda just hoping to see Venditte

Bogaerts' swing is much improved. I'm seeing fewer bad swings in which he's all in front. He stills waves at a lot of pitches and leans in instead of staying balanced and getting his hips to generate power. But his ability to avoid striking out and ability to go the other way with the pitch have stood out significantly lately.

Nice surprise. Came in from pushing dirt around after having watched the changeout to Wright. The team was just trudging along at that point. After weeks of rain, the sun found us and the garden called.
...snd look at that, a 7 spot in the eighth! A comeback win just like old times, what, 2 whole years ago? Always nice to see. Have to catch the replay.

So far it looks like only the best sliders are still giving him heart burn, the rest he can get to.

Welp, baby steps: swept the worst team in the AL. Next up: the worst team in the AL East by winning percentage.

I missed an uplifting win. When I read about the game it reminded me of a game the Sox played against the Yankees in Sept 1981 where they were down 5-1 at Fenway with two outs in the 8th and suddenly exploded for 7 runs to win 8-5. Anybody on the board remember that game? Similar scenario today.
I'm glad that Bogaerts was moved up in the order. If the Sox are going to start scoring some runs, Bogaerts is a guy who needs to be a key contributor in the middle of the order. Hopefully soon Betts will catch fire and get reinstated toward the top of the order and hopefully Castillo will start showing us why the Sox compared him to Ron Gant. Get Ortiz hot, maybe Sandoval....one can hope anyways.

I've been saying that Bogaerts will be the best SS in the AL over the rest of the season, but maybe I'm underselling him ... Crawford has been going nuts out in SF and maybe that continues, but Bogaerts is 4th in fWAR behind Crawford, Jhonny Peralta, and Adeiny Hechavarria. If Bogaerts keeps playing the way he's playing and adds a little more power ... is it really outlandish that he'd be the best of that group? Tulo is having a pretty crap year, but maybe he picks it up ...
And Bogaerts is 7th among qualifiers in Defensive fWAR, which is amazing considering where he came from defensively.

It's almost as if allowing a talented young player to stay at one position - rather than jerking him around for two years - has helped with his defensive development. In all seriousness, I always thought he had the ability to be a solid defensive SS with his athleticism, but it's looking like he might be better than that. Combine that with his bat and (hopefully) improved power going forward, and we might have something special on our hands.

Something I've mentioned before (and will probably mention again) is the mindset that's been induced thanks to instant communications. We expect everything on Internet-time. I say this from my background, having watched it all develop. From the initial introduction of PCs, the public release of the TCP/IP protocols (the underlying rules of the road for the Internet which members of Congress insisted had to be made available to everyone - yes Al Gore was one of the legislators behind that), to the very first and very twisted versions of those protocols in Windows for Workgroups, and so on. Right through to the rumors from CERN about the web and HTML ( and the young Brit who thought a lot of it up), to the first public green-screen browser ( Lynx), it all happened over the period of about ten years. The advent of Hypertext, the idea of which has a surprisingly long history, put us all into hyper-mode. One of the reasons I like baseball is because of the development curve for players. Watching them learn the game, play enough defense and see enough pitches to gain an instinctual feel for how to play, including what those pitchers are trying to do to them, and then build all of that into a physical "expert-system" is a real pleasure. All of that takes time, something we arbitrarily convince ourselves doesn't exist these days. Bogaerts, I think partly due to his makeup, has used that time over the last two years or so, to start down that road. I expect we'll all get pleasure watching that journey for at least the next four-five years. I'm down with that.
