Off on business for 6 days... and this comes down. I read through the entire, painful, thread to try to get an idea of the sentiment now that I'm back in town. There were times I had connectivity and times I didn't, but when I did I would sneak a peek at the box to get an idea of how things were progressing - badly it seemed just about every glance. Then at night, when we were through, I'd check out the... "highlights" ...to get the details. Ugly stuff.
Hard to know what to think at this point. Others have pointed out the near-schizoid nature of the team, the atrocious defensive play, the inability to get offense and pitching going at the same time. The season has blown past the 1/3 mark, and while it's possible to imagine a complete turnaround, that does seem unlikely. I'd settle for better play all around.
People should give Rodriguez a pass on that last game. He wasn't going to keep his numbers that low forever. It's all about pitching even when you don't have your best stuff. For a 22 year-old, that is probably in the future.
For the rest of it, the defense has been just terrible. I really miss Vazquez even more than I thought I would.
