Glad the Yankees didn't take Matuella.

Clay Buchholz is the laziest Asche Russell comp... You're going to comp a guy based on his face? Most people are joking... They do look a lot alike.

Not many Mormons with Italian last names in Arkansas lol. Probably just started late. Some states have Aug/Sept cutoff dates for starting school...maybe he was hyper and needed a little extra maturation time. He's not particularly young for the draft (a little, but not a ton...compare w Aiken who was born in August I think but was *young* for his class and the draft), but is relatively so, and I love the jump in output...great numbers in a tough conference and he demonstrated the desire to succeed combined with the will to make it happen. I don't know if this is the case here, but it's not uncommon for kids to "stay back" a year in order to be bigger for football in some states. It's more common in the south. He's from Ohio.

Well, I wanted one of the pitchers Jay, Fulmer or Bueler, but to be honest all I saw was film on these guys so I have nothing more than that.
Weak draft and a helium guy like Benintendi makes me a little nervous. my only real hope is that we pick last in the first round next year.

Teams are taking any and all college bats available. It's crazy how many are coming off the board.

I have been Benintendi's fan for a month. I love this pick.

Harold Reynolds is a moron. You can see Dan O'Dowd roll his eyes almost everytime he talks.

Time to see if Houston selects Cameron. Also could see Colorado pick another power arm in Donny Everett here.

Cameron it is. Between Correa, Bregman, Tucker, and Cameron, hell of a day for the Houston franchise.

It's pretty cool how the St. Louis Cardinals get a competitive balance pick.

McKenzie, at 6'5" 165-170, can build out that frame a bit.

Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee bacon! “@brandonsaho: #BREAKING A semi carrying 2,200 pigs flipped on it’s side, now all pigs are loose on a highway near Dayton, OH. @fox19 will be LIVE at 10pm!” Somebody sedate Sandoval and tie him up before it's too late.

That's what I figured...late start=more mature for class=advantage athletically and probably academically/socially. He's right on the age cusp, so not surprising... The good news is, he absolutely destroyed SEC pitching, and he's young for a college draftee, if old for a sophomore. I tend to think he's being sold short on power because of his size. Joc Pederson isn't a particularly big guy, and consistently got 50-55 power grades, but here's a great fangraphs piece that puts those estimations in their place: the trash bin. At 6'1" and under 200 lbs, Pederson absolutely crushes the ball: www.fangraphs.com/blogs/how-strong-is-joc-pederson/Interestingly, Benintendi gets similar grades across the board as Pederson, but with a better hit tool/plate discipline.
