Remember, every time a pitcher gives up runs it's because he's not good enough at pitching.

Also, every time a Yankee strikes out, an angel gets its wings.

Good hard contact so far this inning. Hanley could crush one here.

I'm being snarky, yes. But your criticism of Miley pitching like every starting pitcher does is that he's not good enough to do that. The problem with your argument is that, at a very basic level, it's wrong. He's a perfectly serviceable starting pitcher. If you throw out his April performance as an adjustment to a new league, team, catchers, etc.... he has an ERA in the high 3's, exactly in line with both his previous performance and his peripheral stats. He's going to give up runs some times, and he's going to give up homers some times. But it's not because he stinks and it's not because his approach is bad. It's because he's only pretty good and sometimes good hitters hit pretty good pitchers really hard.

This is the second time in the series that the YES announcers talk about the "outfield mix" the Sox have this season and how they need to figure out who plays. And each time they have talked about Moncada being one of those outfielders... That's the color of obsession. Add: Eovaldi isn't long for this game, a good thing. Time to rummage through that bullpen.

This looks like the reverse of the BABIP disaster that Buchholz had in April.

What's more likely? That Hanley Ks and Panda is thrown out at second? Or that Panda is off with contact and Hanley hits into a double play?
I'd be interested to see numbers there. Logic says that you could easily run into a double play while trying not to hit into a double play, but I don't know the probabilities.

There's don't show me everything and there's not mixing up what you are showing first time through. That was my point. And I still don't think he's good enough to get by with that tactic vs. the 1-6 of any AL East line-up except, maybe, Tampa - especially when he was missing the zone with the secondary pitches.

What is the most hits in an inning without an xbh? A helluva lot more than the Sox have gotten.

Seriously though, is there a worse collection of egomaniacs than MLB umpires?
They're awful at their jobs and even worse human beings.

For getting called for a balk that isn't a balk? I take that back - just saw the "balk." Hernandez is a human advertisement for the reason combative mediocrity in the workplace should be an immediate firing offense.

What percentage of balk calls make any sense? Such a terribly called rule.

Hernandez always finds ways to go out of his way to be a bad umpure. Like, if a first base umpire called that balk then whatever - garden variety borderline balk call that I disagree with. To have the home plate umpire call it? How does he even have that authority?
