Greed is REAL good!! Hard not to think that way. That would really send the division in to a tale-spin. Hard to believe the last 3 weeks after the 1st 3 months.

If the Sox had wanted to sweep this series they should have had Steven Wright starting game 1 with Bucholz and E-Rod following.

This series feels a little bigger than your typical July series, and not just because they're playing the Yankees.
The Sox are undoubtedly playing their best since April, and they have their top three pitchers going. Taking at least two here would be really nice to say the least.

If things go right the Sox could be 2.5 out and in second place, and if things go wrong they could be 8.5 out with nothing to show for their good play over the last couple weeks. This series could single handedly put the Sox into buy or sell mode depending on the outcome. So yeah, a sweep would be really nice.

If the Sox had wanted to sweep this series they should have had Steven Wright starting game 1 with Bucholz and E-Rod following. I'm actually happy to have Buch start that first game. Pineda is the best pitcher we face in this series, so I want somebody who will keep us in the game with him. Their other two pitchers shouldn't scare anybody - in particular, Nova has a 9/7 K/B in 17 innings since returning. I get the strategy of setting up Buchholz by pitching Wright the night before, but I don't think this series is the best time to apply it. Of course, we could always just have the ump check Pineda for goop.

Feels like a playoff series in early July.

If the Sox had wanted to sweep this series they should have had Steven Wright starting game 1 with Bucholz and E-Rod following. Maybe that'd maximize their chances of winning 2/3 of the series (arguable), but it's definitely not the best chance for a sweep. Pineda is much better than Wright, so you're lowering your chance of winning that game significantly. You're raising your chance of winning the second two games, but all we're really saying there is that Buchholz & Rodriguez are the two best chances of winning for the Sox, and we're moving them to each face a worse pitcher. No, to me the best chance for a sweep is with the current pitching. It's also probably the best chance to get swept ...

If the Sox had wanted to sweep this series they should have had Steven Wright starting game 1 with Bucholz and E-Rod following. Steven Wright's last four MLB starts: 23.0 IP, 20 H, 12 R/10 ER, 3 BB, 12 K, .219 BABIP Wade Miley's last four MLB starts: 24.0 IP, 24 H, 9 R/9 ER, 14 BB, 21 K, .333 BABIP With the Yankees so heavily left-handed, it's a great spot for Miley, imo. Also, I'm of the belief that Brian Johnson's being lined up to join the rotation after the break.

At least now he is putting it on his hat, glove, or inside of his belt like a normal pitcher. He was deserving of being thrown out after playing it off as the worlds biggest hickey. I wouldn't trust Buchholz pitching without whatever makes his hair that sweaty. MLB really needs to standardize a substance and be done with it.

I hate these guys. Two is good three would be heavenly. Just me, but a cloying attitude seems to pervade everything about NY: From the empty box seats, paid for by the business types who got their a$$e$ saved after wrecking the global economy (see Greece and China for current echoes of that disaster), to the insistence on the finely tweezed profile that does this to players: ...as if that stuff makes any difference whatsoever. And that's before we get to Michael Kay, the ultimate sycophant, or the Viking funeral for Jeter - the one with the cash register ringing constantly in the background.
So yes, it's easy to get psyched up for this series.

And the inverted swastika they use as a logo. I mean, who doesn't see right through that?

Wright is an answer, but maybe not the best one. Kelly might be the answer to a different question. Owens isn't ready. So you're left with Johnson. They have to see what he can do, I think.

The way the starters are lined up, aren't we getting Leon starting 2 games? He'll be catching Clay, then there's a day game after a night game, I hope JF plays Hanigan the last two considering the ASbreak coming after.

Yes, but Wright gives the Sox the benefit of the Yankee batters having to adjust back to normal pitching after he pitches. It takes a few games before everyone is right again. Or so the stats say anyway. Unfortunately Farrell has never done this I don't think. I don't really expect him to either.

Farrell has been very consistent about pitching Wright as late in each series as possible.
