GCL game postponed (rain). Even Mother Nature already fears AE I think the Rays minor leaguers saw Bull Durham one too many times and turned the sprinklers on. Can't say I blame them but they better not pull this crap next time.

GCL game postponed (rain). Bummed.. We showed at Port Charlotte's park and nobody's there but the groundskeeper's at 11:15AM.. Field was wet, sky as blue as can be and no game? This is Florida, it always rains like this. You kidding me? Anyway... Wife and I decided to stretch out mini vacation to another day.. More sunning at the beach for her and more time hiding underneath a 'brolly for me.. heh.. Pure torture you see? Hopefully no rain on Tuesday so can see wonder pitcher Anderson Espinoza go at it.

Edilson Bautisa got the start for DSL RS1.
Marino Campana: 3-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI. He has been mashing lately.
Add: Campana hitting .344 in July, with a .935 OPS. Still striking out alot, though: 15 K in 61 AB.

I feel for you. This same thing happened to me last year in Port Charlotte. I pull up and the Red Sox team is climbing into the damn bus. The rain had stopped easily 45 minutes before and there wasn't a cloud in the beautiful blue sky. I was so pissed! My ride from Bradenton is about 45 minutes to the Rays' complex, and the whole way back I was grumbling. Hadn't yet seen Chavis and wanted to see Devers again. Florida's rain season is no myth!

Per JJ Cooper of BA, Teddy Stankiewicz left after being struck with a liner on the shoulder. He was apparently able to walk off on his own. Kyle Kaminska in to start the second.

Anyone else think it might be time to promote Cuevas to AAA? He certainly would look better in the Pawtucket rotation than Todd. He's been very impressive over his last couple of starts, and is ready for a tougher assignment in my opinion.

Margot 2-4. Travis 2-3 with 2B. Didn't they do that last night or the night before. That duo has done well since being promoted.

Had a chat with folks in the know this weekend, and confirmed that just because a player is announced at a certain position when drafted, it doesn't mean the team asked for that - it might just be what they were in the database as.
So from this same conversation, I was able to confirm that Tyler Spoon is converting to catcher and that Jagger Rusconi is going to play second base. I'd assume, then, that Downs is staying at first as well. This would also explain the strange roster construction when we thought all those guys were going to play outfield.

So Benintendi is going to end next year in Portland and be in Boston by mid-June 2017. Could be one absolutely sick defensive outfield in 2018 with 25 year old Mookie Betts, 23 year old Andrew Benintendi and 23 year old Manny Margot.
Or Betts could move back to second and the other two guys could crater and fizzle in AAA (or be traded for Cole Hamels), but it's at least fun to think about having three elite defensive outfielders who also have above-average bats. This season is an absolute steaming pile of unwatchable garbage, but it's so easy to see where the team is headed if they can just avoid signing fat and hugely flawed free agents. Benintendi, Betts, Bogaerts, Swihart, Vazquez, Rodriguez, Owens, Johnson, Moncada, Bradley, Devers, Margot, Guerra, Kopech, Espinoza; it's just so much talent that could be here in 2018 that even if half of them fail it's still going to be a beautiful team to watch.
